...I dont understand why people vote no because it would be on a seperate server with a seperate account and if you dont want to play there then dont play there.

Because that's the question that the poll asked... one should vote no if they wouldn't play in a new mode, don't you think?

So you voted "no" but proved the opposite. The OP is actually asking if you would play it and so you do already and should have voted "yes" instead.

Not necessarily. Playing in a separate mode dedicated to "Iron Man" is quite different from playing Iron Man in Open. Believe it or not, some people actually enjoy interacting with psychopaths. :D

I don't see how mode merging has to do with anything. There's only one Galaxy with some filters of who you meet.

I'd rather see missions that are more risk all, loose all but pay big.

Basically tough multi stage missions where the insurance company will not uphold your claim for losses.

Choose them at risk. Loose and your busted.

It would be better though to have it as a second optional commander then making it a separate mode.

I wouldn't mind a seperate galaxy - maybe one of the little ones around our own as the game area for IM. That way, we could keep the core game mechanics but have a seprate BGS, powerplay and what not. Such a model might be subscribtion based after you bought ED.
A smaller inhabited core, maybe only several million unexplored stars and absolutly now way to get to or from the Milky Way! plus, the eye watering risks of uninsured space travel in a a hostile galaxy.

I would have loved iron man mode right out of the gate, would have made for good fun and a more civilised world in my mind.

People suggesting you can play in Iron man mode now forget one thing: The other players you meet won't be. So while you're nervously not wanting to risk your ship in an engagement they're throwing their FDLs around with gaye abandon, because the worst they'll lose is a couple of million, which is what a unilateral iron man instance prevents.

I would be interested f it was only allowed on say a second or third commander out of 3 slots on one account and you were locked into that mode with that choice, so no mode switches.

So basically lose 4 years of progress, start again in a sidey, and risk losing all progress because of one occurance of being distracted by [phone call/girlfriend/work/dog/cat/some other emergency]

Yeah, i'll pass on that. This is the reason i didnt like eve. Death = lose everything

The thing is you wouldn't loose everything.

Back in 2013 when I made the original IM post (which I suspect FD picked up on and included in their DDF proposals) was that if you died you were "dead" to the Ironman universe but could continue if you wanted in normal.

In effect, in the IM universe, you're dead and the only way to rejoin is wipe and start again.

You do not lose everything when you die in EvE, the ship you are in and the implants you have in your head ( if you are bad) that is all.

If you like loot piñatas in hi sec for mission running and keep eating killed by hi sec gankers, well maybe use a lesser ship and still profit the same.

Voted no but I'd like to have it as an option as a 2nd CMDR or something like that..

Now I think about it, how about a super-seed server with everyone in new CMDRs with 50x income or something. Run it once a year, perma-death meaning you only get 1 chance per year and have it count most kills or damage or whatever for prizes to the top 10.
Just a thought, probably all sorts of problems with this idea but it'd be fun and PvP heavy.

I'm sure it's been said, but you can already do this for yourself - just delete your save when you 'die'.

As for me, I'm very happy to have insurance and a CMDRs chair that doubles as a lifeboat - besides, I already get my fix of masochism elsewhere...

:D

Not the same, and only you play by those rules everyone else don't! Big different.

I'd play for sure. Permadeath would make the game much more interesting, exciting and suspenseful. For everyone who says "you can do that now, just reset your save if you die" it does not work because the people you are playing with are not going to do that, so they are going to act very differently then if they were playing by the same rules. Its not the same at all.
I'd like to see a hardcore server designed with absolute realism and immersion in mind, where everyone wasn't able to get a hundred million in no time, where death was a real thing you should try to avoid, and were you existed in a big hostile universe and your hope was just trying to survive and thrive in any way possible.
Just my dream game were talking about here.

Can't get attached to a CMDR i'm likely to lose every few weeks at best.

And one reason i suspect FD are not really looking at implementing it is the number of support requests it could generate. Every time someone died due to what they perceived to be a bug would generate another support tickets to restore their character.

You want to play Ironman, just do it yourself. Its your choice whether to delete your save after a death or not.
