Is this where we are headed? Concernd

I read the title and thought for sure it was going to say:

Turn chair around from computer, rise up from seated position, put one leg in front of the other. Explore planet earth.

I think players have the right to be concerned. Here's a video I could find from 2014:

I understand the need for shields in the game, also speed cap and other stuff which are needed for gameplay reasons. But weapons which regenerate shields when fired at friends doesn't really fall under "as scientifically accurate as we can make it".

I understand the intent to have a mechanic where players assist each other in combat. I agree it adds positively to the game. But it could be done differently than taking a weapon which was designed for destruction, giving it a green wavy fire effect and serving it to us on a platter.

PS: I think I'm right in saying that this thread isn't specifically about walking around and about the game turning into a korean mmo clone. It's just the OP's way of finding an over the top analogy between the most common gameplay elements today (third person view of a character). The point is that Elite : Dangerous has a certain flavor no other game has, and I personally would hate to see that lost.

I see it as a Trojan horse, if they can sneak this RPG element into the game then it's open season for all kinds of inappropriate content and tools that should never see the light of day in a space sim.

Elite is my dream firework display, I don't want anyone spraying liquid on that investment.

Actually...recharging energy systems with the help of lasers are waaaaaay more scientifically accurate (since it exists today already) compared to the concept of sci fi shields themselves.

This. Can we please stop the hyperbole, drama, slippery slope fallacies and all that infantile nonsense? You'd assume people had learned from the whole 'pp modules will destroy ed and turn it into wow' crap...

Given that shields are energy based; lasers fire concentrated energy; all that remains is a module that harnesses this energy and stores it for shield use ... given that shielding (as in the game) is technically "handwavium" anyway I see no inaccuracy with regenerating them <shrug>

ED isn't a hard-science based game. (If it was then things like coloured lasers for example, seen from the side wouldn't be in)

"Scientifically accurate" is the new "immersion" and "depth". A random term, never explained, never mind by anyone with relevant credentials, just to make a shallow argument appear sane. Its boring.

The problem as I see it is you'll end up with a situation like Eve, where you get a wing of ships, all healing each other, making a pretty much unbreakable tank.
Of course, it's probably Eve fans who've lobbied for this in the first place.
