Im on first mission. After sussing out controls (generally) i get to a canister and im shooting it and it wont blow up. Am I doing somthing wrong? I thought I was supposed to shoot all the canisters... any advice would be great cheers

I had this, sometimes they are indestructible. The first thing to try is a quick reload. Sometimes I think it's possible to shoot either side of them, so they sit in the "V" your bullets form.
After that try shooting them from further away. Look on your left panel to see if the ammo is hitting them (shows as a little red explosion on the canister's hull).
If not, get close, but aim to the left of the canister then slowly yaw right so the canister passes through your hail of hot lead based death. Somewhere in there you'll see where to aim to hit the things.

From the start don't close the distance much. Aside from the navigation beacon that is indestructible they blow up very easily.
One problem I did have originally and its more noticeable on the second mission was I thought I was hitting the target but I wasn't. My timing was out and it took me a while to master easing on to the target and firing at a point that would ensure a hit.

It requires more time to destroy Nav beacon than cargo canisters especially in A 1.1. It is much more difficult to destroy canisters in A 3.4 as much more hits are required.
