Finally got Killed by a CMDR...

So, It's happened at last, after 6 months in the game...
I kind of went out of my way and forced the issue, I meant for it to happen really, although the manner was different from how i expected.

I was running the Epsilon Indi CG, docked at the station and dropped off the goods, lots of CMDR's around, no chat on the tab so I knew something was up... I'd seen a CMDR outside the station on my previous run, taking pot-shots at folk leaving the system (strangely, he was clean).... I was in a Cobra, so not too worried. On my way out of the letterbox, I was rammed by an incoming ship... No worries, I thought.... Then it happened again... and again when I redocked to repair... That was it.
Rebuy screen.
It's a strange way to have fun, isn't it? But who am I to judge....
Flew out in the new ship and the fella outside shot at me as I left.... It made me chuckle.

Now to the point... All this unwanted PvP stuff. I grew up in South London. I know where to go and where not to. What side of the street to walk on.
ED, for me, is the same. I knew what was going to happen and could've avoided it. Do we all have that sense?
It seemed as though there were a few less experienced Commanders out there tonight, hope they're all ok. All the rammy, shooty lot seemed to be in the same instance with each other anyway...

It's a rite of passage I felt I should experience...
So thanks Rammers... I now know what it's like.
See you soon, I'm sure....

I've been playing about that long and never been blown up by a CMDR. Probably lucky and just never went to the wrong place. I heard Erevate was kind of dangerous and checked it out but it was just a bunch of newbies. I tried talking to a couple of them but they ignored me (probably intimidated by my AWESOME master combat rank, lol (or they were just too busy getting the hang of the game to waste time with some strange dude bugging them). What systems should be avoided? Haven't seen a list here or anything...

I rarely see other CMDRS so not sure what that experience is like yet. 1100k outside the bubble atm so unlikely to meet anyone here.

this is pretty much my point of view on this. It is SO easy to avoid. There are thousands of systems, and only a handful actually have CMDR's hanging around, even few have CMDR's that are -ish. the one time I got "ganked" was back whent he dumbfire missile in station thing was on, and I knew I was walking into the middle of it at the time, and accepted the outcome. I could have easily moved on to another station. The unexploded dumbfire missiles littering the instance was a dead giveaway. In fact, I'd almost argue that I wish it had not been changed, as that mad eit far easier to tell if station campers were around...

Thanks OP your clairvoyance on the issue really is refreshing.

BTW, the clean person you saw shooting players as they left the station was very likely my wingmate Han Solo from the IPC. He was hunting wanted pirates in the area (hence the lack of a bounty).

I tend to fly in open in an FDL when visiting the hot spots.
Had a CMDR try to kill me yesterday who was the same power as me.
I imagine alcohol has something to do with it.

Having restarted twice in the last couple of months (self imposed Iron man mode and idiot decision making), once at LHS 3447 and once at the Horizon starting place (Alsia Prime is it?). I was generally surprised no-one tried to pirate or kill me - I mean I used the Adder path the first time the Hauler path the 2nd time! It was not like this back in January 2015. It pains me to say it, but having the player groups in and around both the starting areas has calmed things down a bit.

Some say it is easy to avoid PvP, I would say you actually have to go looking for it with a letter from your mum saying its ok to shoot you, which is why I find the PvP verses PvE arguments on this forum redundant and stale these days. I mean even the PvPers have headed for the PVE Groups :)

I bet I get killed by a PvPer from a player group tonight having said all that!

Generally anywhere that players gather in large numbers:

CG's by far the worst places
Followed by Lave cluster
Followed by powerplay capitals
Followed by New starter systems
Followed by player events

New starter systems are hit and miss, often you'll be perfectly fine, sometimes there are people out to kill new starters. Sometimes there are people protecting the new starters. Get on the wrong side of either and you may find yourself attacked

That last one is hard to avoid since there can be many private events that you'll only know about with 100's of hours trawling the internet, however, they are also the least dangerous and often impossible to find due to instancing anyway. They are only dangerous if you drop in a RES zone or whatever and there's 3 wings of 4 doing PvP because they will probably be too busy fighting to notice you are a bystander :p

Edit: Oh and any controversial places like Robigo, slave trading routes etc. (Large player gathering, not everyone agrees) :)

Asking to make sure: You were redocked,,,, sitting on the pad. And another ship was able to ram you and cause damage?

I thought that once you were docked, your ship was immune from damage.

I'm doing the same (self imposed Iron Man). I've done about the same number of restarts in the same time period. I cleared my 9 month old game save because, though nearing ELITE, I wanted to do it Iron Man and had a few insurance claims on my save. I got PvP'd in the first week running rares out of Diso (I was taking some screenshots in debug camera when *boom*). Second restart was due to an unfortunate encounter with a Neutron Star.

I do agree that avoiding PvP is generally possible but less likely to evade if you're running around marked "Harmless".

I imagine he was unshielded, had very low hull and docked badly 😏

I was unclear in the OP. When the killer nudge was, well, nudged, I was through the slot on the way to the pad.... There were a few of them around, inside and out.... Bless. Ram Squad!
