Computer will be fine but you'll need to invest loads of time to obtain the most expensive ship(s) and equipment. I've got hundreds of hours and I'm nowhere near unlocking everything. It's mental.

lol not getting wasted is possible but unfortunately there's no way around the time investment. You can get a decent Cobra MKIII fairly quick and that'll be good for most of the activities in the game...but if you're anything like me, you'll come to feel the primary goal is advancement of rank and finances...which is nothing but massive endless grinds.
Oh, this doesnt sound promising.
Many people feel differently. Exploration is the best thing in my opinion but...I find after hundreds of hours it gets a little predictable.
I expect if you buy it you'll probably enjoy it at first.

You don't have to play it like that.
It's best to pay zero attention to the rank screen and only really worry about cash to get what you immediately want and to insure your ship - you can do virtually everything there is to do in the game from day 1. Lots of people are used to RPGs where you have to 'grind' to get experience to unlock skills so you can do things - this is doing repetitive boring simple easy tasks rather than playing the bigger game as it's a quicker and easier way to get to the NuSkillztm - Elite doesn't work like that. You can earn money fairly easily and do almost everything in the lower-end ships - don't fret what other's do

Awesome it most certainly is! I'm wearing rose tinted spectacles so biased, but it's phenomenally good - and only a grind if you make it so.
I played the original for, um - 15 years or so? If you aren't in any sort of rush to win and are ready for a very steep learning curve then you'll love it I'm sure.

Think of Elite as more of an ongoing experience and hobby than a linear progression game. It's going to be continually changing for you and is a slow burn. It's the perfect thing to just relax and play. There are great communities and player groups you'll find and if you're not feeling social, you just play a solo mode and it filters out player encounters for you.

Yeah, you're good for playing the game.
Guilds / clans may not be what you expect because it isn't a free for all.
Some will teach you, you can always play in Solo to learn if you want to learn it for yourself.
If you fast track, you'll have missed the point.
It generally comes down to how you want to experience the game yourself.
It isn't too hard to get in the best ship OP. The best pvp ship right now is my profile avatar, it will cost 120 million for a pvp fit, you could make the journey to that ship in anywhere from days to months depending on how much you play. It will take longer if you play in many sessions, however, doing trading or bounty hunting is suitable for smaller sessions.
As for your system specs, you have the same specs as me!
I get 200 fps+ usually (sometimes drops to 100-150 range) and typically do around 100-150 when I'm recording in 1080p. In subspace, which is where pvp combat takes place, I usually get around 150 fps while recording (all in ultra, of course). Hope that helps

Your specs are fine, but you could really benefit from another 8GB of ram. Grab it when it is on sale or something. You will notice a difference if you have a lot of other stuff open while playing Elite.
