The Xbox E:D Horizons discussion thread

If you go in knowing the key to finding unique/interesting system and have an idea of what kind of systems you want to see. The result is stuff like this:

https://youtu.be/kIp96hvHRKM?t=2m8s

Just because you lack any artistic flair or the ability to think ahead apparently does not mean exploration is boring. The problem is you. I got thousands of views, praise from PC players who thought my montage was from the PC and not Xbox, and Frontier themselves tweeted out and praised my video in particular, and a multitude of people who said it was the best elite montage they had ever seen.

What have you done? You talk about exploration just being one thing and yet you clearly have never challenged yourself to create or find anything of any importance. Guess what? Most of space is going to be boring. That's why you look for something that isn't. It's a goal that allows you to always want to go out just a bit more into the deep. When all you do is honk and jump then yes, it'll be boring. But when you challenge yourself to find the best views, the most incredible systems. When you spend an hour setting up the perfect shot, waiting for an eclipse, when you are literally inches away from hitting an asteroid but chance it anyways to get the most dynamic angle you can...exploration can be exciting because you are always challenging yourself to think creatively in order to create the scene the has the most impact on the audience you are trying to show it too.

It's not just about seeing a binary star system and taking a shot. It's about finding a binary star system with a two binary ringed planets within 10ls of those stars. Those set up incredible opportunities for incredible photographic or cinematic shots. That scene with the black hole and the star at 3:54 in my montage was not something I stumbled across, I actively searched the galactic map for black holes and looked to see if they had stars and how close they were before jumping into the perfect one. I then got close enough to get the black hole to "eclipse" and then cut the video to match the music I was using perfectly.

At no point was I bored, to the contrary I was excited because I had found the perfect scene to match something I had designated as something I wanted in my montage BEFORE I even left the bubble.

So you can explore and honk and scan or you can be a pretentious forum user who needs to lurk more and post less about something they clearly do not actually do all that much.

Your choice.

An amazing video indeed and well shot.

Now, if you lost the utterly narcissistic attitude and over inflated sense of self importance when replying to posts on the forum, I would have repped you for it.

Your choice :)

Love your video, I immediately added it to my favorites list when I saw it and was completely stunned when I found out it came from the Xbox One version of the game. I've even pondered making one someday. Great work on that video, can't wait to see what you can come up with once Horizons drops.

Do it!

You should see my earlier montages, they are absolutely horrible but I got better with every single one!

If you want help ask me look up basic photography guides online and look for photographs by places like National Geographic. When you get an idea of what makes something "interesting" experiment in game.

Being proud of your work is not the same as being narcissistic. The reason I listed the praise I got for it was to reiterate the point I was trying to make that creating something can have a meaningful impact for you and for others. Seeing the positive response made me happy and want to try harder to learn more.

I am far from being "great" at anything I do whether it's screenshots or videos. We all have more to learn.

As for the other part, I admit I lose my patience when obvious things are said/asked but in general I'm not actually being mean, if I was I'd have been warned and reported already. As for your internet points...well they are imaginary. I will survive.

Note, I am not saying that I should always be blunt. Or that I need to react with to everything obvious by mocking it. I am not saying I shouldn't be more tactful. Just that my "holier then thou" attitude is in response to other peoples statements or questions, not because I honestly think I'm better or whatever then everyone else.

I'm actually what you would call a "SJW" if you were one of those kinds of people. I might be blunt but I try to never be flatout mean or ableist. I am not of the mentality that people need to "grow a thicker skin" or that I should never have a need to be tactful. It's just that on these forums in particular I get fairly incredulous at the things people say and I over react often times.

I'll give a plus rep for that honesty, and thank you for the video... hatchet buried hopefully :)

Crafting you will find ore on the surface that lets you craft powerful ammo and jump distance boost to the fsd there are bases to land on just like you do in orbit so keep the docking computer handy also hidden bases and wreckage some guarded by aggressive flying bots as soon as you enter the secure area most of the non atmosphere planets are landable also data retrieval is need for missions hope this helps guys

Can crafting materials be transferred between ships?

So question once all these updates come out (2.1 specifically), I'm hearing that scanning things like ships, wakes, signals, etc gets you things. What kind of things?

Wouldn't this really cripple the smuggling side of things? Players could just sit outside of stations scanning anything and everything that floated by.

Feel free to ask this question on the beta forum.

yes i thought at least landing on the planet and looking for for crafting materials (whenever we get horizions and the engineers that is) might be cool instead of staring at a plannet from orbit until a bar says complete, trading just doesn't seem fun in any way to me because you don't really want anything eventful to happen and combat is just a pure grind now because the ai barely fights back if they just get the combat ai working i wouldn't be here asking when they are going to patch the game or add the dlc which is more likely because they will probably bundle all the fixes into that
Not a single period in that whole paragraph, ya think he typed it in one breath?
