I'm sorry. I Just HAD to do this....

An unfortunate fellow CMDR posted a video of an unfortunate incident they had whilst out in the Void.

I couldn't help myself, it just had to be done. :/

It'll also serve as a PSA for those wishing to land on higher-G planets....

Please forgive me, CMDR!

Déjà vu

I really feel for that commander;
I had a close encounter with a ~4G planet way past the core a couple weeks ago in my Anaconda and barely got away with it with 44% hull integrity. I sacrificed jumprange for class 6A shields, and those plus 4 pips to system saved me.

However, one might argue that 4 pips to engines might have prevented the crash....

Last time I went out to explore, I was at 25000+ ly from Sol when I tried to land on a big, heavy gravity planet like this. The catch: there was a greenish dust layer, one so dense I could see nothing (like, nothing at all) around me. I wanted to land in a crater and all I had was the hud to help for that matter.

Then I realised two things, in that order:

-it was the first time ever I was attempting to land blind (I'm not exagerating when I say there was zero visibility). Whooo!
-the altitude indicator was getting down really, really fast. "300km? Let's slow down a b... 50KM????? WHA" boom.

High gravity planets: the ultimate npc trolls.

Very funny. I probably would have found it more funny if I had not done the same in an ASP while heading to Sagittarius A* once, luckily for me me I was less than 5% from the bubble when I did it.

I don't think so. I am one of those people who took Cutter to Achenar 3 and I have similar experience from other less harsh places as well. Once your vertical speed exceeds your ship's maximal speed, there's nothing in the world you can do about it, in these big ships.
(btw. My speed record on Achenar 3 is 920m/s )

I posted a little guide to high G landings a while back, as long as you correctly configure thruster assignments, you can land any large ship on high G worlds with ease. Fortunately thruster rating and pip settings are irrelevant.
