FDEV - Lead time for Beta 2.1 database snapshot?

Hi Boys and Girls,

Just wondered if you could give an idea of the lead time (day(s)) of when you take a snapshot for the Beta.

I'm rushing home right now from the distant worlds trip, I hope to land at a station tonight.

However there are other commanders who still have a bit of long haul back...

So could you suggest a date or number of days before beta that we should aim to get back in the bubble for the snapshot.

Obviously testing the Beta 40,000ly from a station / engineer is probably not ideal :)

Many thanks in advance

Nutter :)

PS. Keep up the good work

You can just self destruct in the beta snapshot, gets you back home very quick.

Just make sure you do it in the beta and not the main game though...

Not really an issue even if you don't have time to get back.

Just self destruct and you'll be moved back to your last station you were docked at anyway.

Thanks both, try to bear in mind some people may not be able to afford to pop their ship, a beta with not spending money is not ideal.

But yes if you got the money then you can pop yourself, just makes sure you are in the beta, check, double check, triple check then check again :) Look for the beta text (Bottom left) :)

Still would like the lead time though, thanks commanders

Doubtful that credits will be an issue for anyone who has beta access - especially if prices are cut down to 1/10th normal in case of the "test these, please" items like before.

from memory, in previous beta's it's been from around 2-3 weeks before. So basically it may well have already been taken. On the bright side beta ships and equipment have usually been around 10% of normal price.

and yes, self destructing is probably the quickest way(making sure ofc it's the beta in which you are planning to go boom in)

Think I read the 8th of may for beta.

Edit:

Sorry, during the week ending the 8th of may:

I am delighted to announce The Engineers (Elite Dangerous 2.1) will be available to players with beta access in the week ending 8th May."

David Braben

Yes week of 8th of May (Subject to FD) but I am talking abbout the database snapshot used for beta testing. In other words, when FDEV take a copy of the database to use for Beta testing :)

It will be better if explorers are well spread around the galaxy and don't all immediately self-destruct. There will probably be things that could use some testing like the route plotter. Distant Worlds should have brought it home to FD just how poor the route plotter is in the core and at the edge of the galaxy and there might be changes (if we're very lucky.)

anikaful is correct. It isn't. I only had fifty million in the last Beta, but had a cutter and series of other A rated ships for testing.

  • Self destruct - instant travel back home (so no need to rush - you can enjoy the trip instead)
  • Sell your ship - you get full credits (IIRC)
  • Buy a new ship / components - they're all heavily discounted (90% off)
  • Enjoy !

Horizons Beta I had chump change and managed to kit out an A rated Corvette.

As above if you are determined you can get in a vulture/DBS or whatever and kill some high value targets. Each 400k Anaconda is worth 4mil credits when outfitting so you can get 500mil by killing 125 ships (probably nearer 200 ships with some smaller ones but it's seriously not difficult to do).

Even then you probably only need 50mil to test 99% of the new stuff so that's 13 high value ships (20 ships realistically speaking). No biggy even to a new CMDR. :D
