[SUGGESTION] Some WOW! effect?

may seem like a superficial thing (and it probably is ...) and of the most important things there are certainly others ... but small "wow effect" resonate in those who see them, and above all helps the crowdfunding ;)

(For example, the hangar opening and the "helmet trick" in star citizen have more grip on the minds of all the problems he had at PAX..)

Your right.

I think that when you dock, Mark Hamill should wander up outside your ship and try to clean your cockpit screen.

Small touches like this make a difference.

Problem with these effects is that after a while they grow irritating. I back SC but i sure hope that i dont have to see that helmet throwing every time i get into a ship.

It was a harmless bit of fan service really, and the whooping from the audience showed that they were right on the money. I would question whether it will be given the same response if it is an un-skippable scene though.

@riedquat

As did I though i think it the OTT crowd reaction from seeing it (how many times) was what put me off most.

I thought the helmet flipping thing was awful and would hate to see that in Elite.

Indeed, especially if it happens each time.
Its rather gimmicky, but doesn't have any value gameplay wise. I hope I can disable it when I get my copy of sc.

A dyson sphere or ringworld would give a much better WOW! Effect.

:)
They sure got excited about a simple helmet flip.
I'd prefer Elite to have it's own style anyways, not copy others...it doesn't need to.

Edit - Not that I'm belittling the nice animation that was made by the artist, but yeah...they get skipped eventually anyways.

So far E: D hasn't needed any helmet flips. It has WOW oozing out of every cockpit.

So true.

Besides everything will pale into insignificance once we all get the chance to be physically part of a 400 billion 1:1 scale galaxy complete with full celestial mechanics.

EDs "wow" moments will be along the lines of watching a triple star system set over the silhouetted mountains of some distant alien moon.

A bit more emotive than scripted animations

The helmet flip not so much, but the whole scen climbing into the cockpit, and the hangar door opening was really nice!

Makes me think of the jet mission in bf3.
When u put the helmet on, the sound get all muffled and the rain hitting the helmet, and climb into the pit!

Immersive as hell!

I tried outputting the game sound via DTS to my surround sound system and that was certainly Wow! The audio is very directional and sounds awesome turned up on 5.1
Just awesome

Thats kinda what annoyed me about the SC "wow" effect of that reveal of the DFM. Seems like a lot of effort went into making the few wow effects that unbelievably as the OP said took away attention from where the reveal was lacking in other areas. Not to derail thread but more attention on the basics and less on the wow effects for the SC team wouldnt go amiss.

In any case we dont need these effects in ED at this point.

I've always thought that not seeing my body in the game is more immersive - if I see my hands on a helmet then it's suddenly not 'me' in the game it's somebody else, since my hands are right here.

Although I seem to be out of step, as usual, with the rest of the gaming world.

So yes, give me procedurally generated celestial things and let me ignore my hands and head!

There should be a button that you press to try and flip your helmet. Every time you do you smack yourself in the face with it instead :D
