Despite what people are voting, we all know its a pile of doo doo. 99% of people will simply react to their muscle memory and open fire
But the odds are first contact will be made by explorers who in general consider weapons as useless items that only add weight. It's only since Horizons released that some of them even started putting shields on their ships. So war is likely to be started from a misunderstanding of someone honking their ADS at the aliens.
Sorry there should be a fifth option of getting abducted and never being heard from again

Kill first, ask questions later.
I don't attack other CMDR's but AI get blasted - As all the aliens we meet will be AI...
It would be REALLY cool if thargoid ships would be piloted by devs. (not all of them, just some of them from time to time and we wouldn't be able to tell the difference from the scanner.)
I think they'd deserve a little fun and payback on us.

I have made the assumption that you are refering to first contact with the Thargoids. Answer - Fire all weapons!!!!
It's the prime method of in-game interaction - I've tried talking to NPCs - they only seam to understand thermal or kinetic communication methods.

i must tell this little story.
last week i had, probably, my biggest shock from when i started to play this game.
As i just said various time i went to omega nebula searching some track or evidence of the existence of other barnacles or alien life.
Well... i was examining a planet, i don't remember the name but it's not important, flying at 100 m from the surface inside canyons and ravines ''because i love the details'' (sigh).
At some point on my left i saw something of very strange : up on the canyon wall there was a sort of rounded enlighted shape, mutable like a soap bubble..
I was shocked... immediately i stopped the ship, but as you know the asp is very tedious and slow when you try to turn around and so i had the time to get excited with the heart that increases the beating and i had the time to think ''omg omg what i discovered !! an alien life form ? an extraterrestrial anaerobic plant that lives between dimensions ?? it will be evil ? it will be able to attack me ? i must be very careful ... but i want to take a screenshot immediately... i want to write in the forum immediately !! ''
the time to turn the ship and go next to that ''thing'' and i realize that was only a trick of the sunset light on the terrain.

I'm not I'm allowed to state how I first reacted as I first made contact with that asteroid that I boosted into. My second reaction was to go and make a cup of tea while I sorted my way through the insurance screen.
Personally, I'm just gonna hope some liberal doesn't wanna give them money - reparations, financial aid or some other reason. If they want money, they gotta buy something - and then make sure I'm the one running in the goods for my own profits of course.

I'm not sure what I would do really... I'd like to think that I would observe them for a bit and then attempt to make contact. More likely, I'll be scared out of my wits by the initial encounter and get out as fast as I can while mashing F10 and hoping that Shadowplay doesn't fail on me.
