Space Dementia is setting in!

I kinda want a second account, but at the same time, I don't. Lol
I do cos I want to explore, while not being tied down by it.
And I don't, because I don't want to start again, or have to rebuy my paintjobs, and I want my progress to count. Lol

I bought a second account and I am loving it, Although it would be nice to have my paintjobs

Should I be worried?

I recently set off in my longest voyage to date, to Sag A!
In my Python. Not the best choice, but my Anaconda turns too slowly, and I barely made it to Barnard's Loop and back before going mad.
And my Asp I couldn't outfit in a manner I found comfortable... I also never use my Python, so now I am. Lol
So I have my explorer Python, 23ly jump range, all the exploration tools I need, plus good shields.

So far, I've only gone about 1500ly from Sol, maybe more.
Yet after a short 500ly 'sprint' I did today while at work, I was beginning to lose my mind.
Every system felt like the last, same yellow orange star, same size... Over and over.... I have no idea how far I even went...
The general glitches don't help either. Planets following me in to hyperspace, lights going out for no reason. Noises.....
Urgh!

I've had to actually do some work now (so I'm on here instead), so I had to stop.
But I've decided to break up my journey in to segments, after deciding sprinting is too mind numbingly boring!
My new anti-space dementia routing is as follows;
Select a random star in the general direct you want to go, between 500-1000ly away.
Sprint, until you either;
A) Reach the Waypoint
B) Find something unusual

In either case, stop and explore the area, and a few nearby systems.
Land somewhere with a good view.
Drive around, gather things.
(I've already found 2 escape pods, which I'm going to carry with me, so i have company.... My new friends....)
Take off, and set course for another 500-1000ly, and repeat.

What do you guys do to delay the onset of space dementia? Lol

Wish I could get away with playing Elite (or even trawling the forums) while at work.......

I bring a good book or 5...especially for those times when I drop in and see a whole lot of nothing nearby, but a bunch of water worlds/ELWs 500,000+ls away. Point, pull out book, relax for half an hour :p

Grit your teeth and keep going. Also go - or + 1000 (up or down) and about 8-10KLys from the bubble you'll start to hit neutron star fields, which are worth a few bucks a-piece. Also black hole "clusters" are found there. And planetary nebulae. And suddenly it's all going to be really interesting again till you get to Sag A*.

Good luck!

PS LOADS more tips for surviving here

Lots of Netflix and have a good chat with the dots when they appear. They're like taxi drivers, they have an opinion on everything.

You're lucky, when I went we couldnt land on planets. Set her down every once in a while and have a slice of Soreen while looking up at the night sky, works on mountain bike rides anyway... ;)

Well I think the space dementia is just a temporary thing, or I've learned to live with this new condition!

Apart from flying in the slightly wrong direction for 4000ly, I've gotten used to long distance travel.
I'm currently about 8500ly from Sol, and I changed course to come alittle closer to the 0,0,8500 mark, and use that line as a handy guide to Sag A.
I keep scouting for neutron star fields, but I haven't seen much yet. I'll probably need to pull up or down about 1000ly to begin running in to them though.

So far I've managed to avoid any serious mistakes.
I've even landed my python on a high G world with no issues, and found some nobium! Lol
Only accident I've had so far is firing off a heatsink when I dropped my controller. Lol
So now I've set the disco scanner and heatsink to separate firegroups to avoid this. I still have 11 heatsinks left though. Lol

Oh well, I'll keep plodding along!

You have quite a long way to go yet. they start at about 13,000Ly from Sol, then up or down 1000LY and left or right 1000LY. You have to go to about 14000, +/-1300, +/-1300 before there's loads of them

I have a few podcasts lined up on my phone beside me and also do like you said at the end - stop and explore every time I see something interesting. Sure, it makes progress slower, but I definitely enjoy it overall. Just jumping, honking, refueling on repeat is mind-numbing. Also need to get up out of the chair every so often.

Lol well I had 2 space dementia related incidents in 1 hoir today.
The first, and probably most serious, was I decided to go take a took at a high G world, and do a spot of canyon racing, before landing to gather some materials.

Only I forgot to raise my shields!
Could died quite easily. Luckily I didn't hit anything!

Second one was, I suddenly became curious as to wether thrusters are required for supercruise, and disabled them.
I then spent the next few minutes repairing everything. Lol

So FYI, thrusters are required for supercruise. Lol

84 days into my current trip, no sign of Space Dementia - Music and Books keep me going, amazingly an old electronic book reader from back in the day still works thanks to the USB port fitted at Dodgy Dan's Ship Repair & Emporium.

The thing is having played for thousands of hours ( 3-4) you get so good muscle memory that you can fly, combat and land drunk like a skunk [haha]
Previously you would always crash doing that, but not anymore....
I have literally fallen asleep from drunkenness while flying, to be awakened by someone in TS hollering at me, was about 6 million kilometers out from star, but I did not crash :)
I remeber first time I started up Elite - crash into station.
We have come a long way... Well not getting more sober , but that is another story

Lol I think the dementia has passed... I probably left it somewhere.

I'm closing in on Sag A quickly now, only 6000ly to go!
Gonna make a pit stop at The Great Annihilator first though, seems as it's only 2500ly from me :D

Passed through my first neutron star field too. Managed not to crash in to any of them!

I somehow covered 7500ly today...

Maybe my dementia is so severe, that I just don't remember most of today....

Hmmm... Oh well.

Anyone know of any other good sights to see within a 2000ly of Sag A?

I wonder whether Elite actually causes brain damage...you know, because it's so repetitive and boring? You know like, how people in solitary confinement suffer brain damage due to lack of stimuli? Yeah, kinda like that.

That feeling you get of wanting to eat a cactus or smash your own face through the monitor while exploring to relieve the boredom, that might be the signs of serious irreversible brain damage beginning to kick in.
