It'd be good to organize an annual Elite Fanfest about the Elite universe with presentations, activities and a gathering of players from around the world. This brings the developers and fans together and boosts popularity of Elite. It could be held in the world famous city of London. People who can't attend in person could watch it live on YouTube and Twitch.

The idea comes from Eve Online's annual Eve Fanfest in Iceland. It's still popular after 13 years. Other game franchises have conventions too such as Minecraft's Minecon.

It is, but it's also directly put forward by CCP, thus the tickets. ;) It's their version of BlizzCon basically and about as big.

I wouldn't mind paying to attend the Elite Fanfest if we get quality stuff. BlizzCon does that too.

There is LaveCon that's been running for a few years. It's independent from Frontier, but they do get involved and send people.

These things should be held in Uzbekistan or Khazakhstan. They're roughly the geographic center of mass of the world's population so we minimize the travel distance for everyone. Plus you'd probably rarely have an excuse to visit there.

But yeah, depending on when (e.g. I may be in England next summer) and where (I probably won't be in Khazakhstan next summer unless something weird happens) I'd be down with it.

It seems like it would be pretty hard to have a fanfest when the Elite community is so spread out all over the place. No matter what landmass you pick you end up forcing a lot of people to have to fly to attend.

Lots of people fly to Iceland too for the Eve Fanfest and to California, USA for Blizzcon. So I don't think that's a big problem.

I went to Eve FanFest twice, (42 hours flight time - wheels up to wheels down - for the first one, to land in a blizzard). The reason I went was to meet the people that I'd got to know online.

With the instancing, and lack of global chat possibilities, the number of people I've met and got to know playing Elite that I didn't know before I started is zero.

Thus there isn't quite the same motivation to fly to the UK to catch up with new and old friends

Theres also Fantasticon in Hull, I attended a year ago and it was great. More for the books than the game but still Elite.

Right, I'd prefer an official Elite convention / fanfest with high quality content and activities.

That's why I loved Lavecon last year. There were some great activities and it was well organised but not a single hint of corporate spin or other such fluff.

It was a bunch of fans of the game, meeting up, chatting and having fun, none more so than Frontier themselves. They could have just done the panel and went home, but they stayed and join in into the late hours and you really could get a sense of how much they love the game and community

I would like it, but the issue is a lot of people who would want to come, would not be able to afford it. Myself included. I can barely afford £40 a month in non-essentials; 80% of my income, at least, goes to the household. That's just a blunt fact of life, unfortunately.

However I voted yes because it's a nice notion.
