The Mahon heat beam is useless. However it seems that now anyone can get a heat weapon that actually works.

Will pilots pledged to Mahon get something else then? Or indeed will the alliance get... anything?

Concerning surface dogfight which was hinted at tonight...

I have to say, back when 2.0 was released there was some disappointment for the lack of NPC action on the surface.

IIRC, at the time, no improvements seemed to be planned on this matter.

So, just wanted to say thank you for working on this !!

Can't wait to dogfight through canyons !!

They get to modify the Mahon heat laser with experimental heat mods for game-breaking effects.

Yes, this was my main complaint about 2.0.

It seems they may now have exceeded my expectations, I half expected them to fudge the AI to avoid tricky terrain. Great to hear canyon runs are in.

30-40?!?! I wish I could get frame rates that high ;). Sadly the best video card I could afford-at the time-was simply not up to the task of delivering good frame rates!

So that ultra-spin cannon basically is the same amount of overpowered as the railguns way back in alpha. Seriously, I was hoping for a more measured approach. Also: that kind of force would instantly kill anyone aboard the ship that is hit.


Remember, these new weapons are not available OFF THE SHELF.
 
For the next Live Stream, I would like for FD to speak to the fact that every single mission has a timer.

I do not know of any other game where even the majority of missions have timers. Normally time is used for strategic reasons and to put pressure on players in special circumstances.

I can understand deliveries of passengers and some goods having some sort of time attached- but would it always be minutes or a couple of hours maximum? Does no-one in the Elite galaxy plan ahead of time? Surely some goods are rare or hard to find and so a week would not be unreasonable.

Exploration missions would surely not be just 5 hours long even.

Why couldn't a surveil or assassination mission where the target has to be hunted, time out after a week. What, travelling a hundred light years and tracking down a target can only ever be done in 2 hours?

I'm not sure how FD could tweak this, but it seems there should be missions with more time allotment and maybe more variation on the way time is employed by FD in the various game mechanics and modes (ex: missions, community goals and even Power Play).

Problem with eliminating timers altogether is you could stack missions to an absurd degree. Most games don't have infinitely spawning procedurally generated missions, so they don't need to make them expire.

They should fix the Mahon heat beam so that it actually works, too. We don't yet know how difficult or rare it will be to get the Engineers' mod, so even if the two devices end up being roughly equivalent, there would still be a value to the Mahon weapon (if it actually worked properly).

That's true but it would still be nice to have some non-timed missions and/or missions with longer durations for those of us that are time-limited. I'd love to see quest-like missions that could potentially take a week or more to complete.

Don't think so, I think the pattern is one a week, day before the next newsletter.
