Summary of tonight's ED On the Horizion/Engineers Beta Part 1 stream

Hmm, was checking the state filter video, when at 0:15 you can see an icon that I'm not familiar with. Is that the new icon for the Community Goals? It floats into view in the top right.

No you won't see it. You will never notice it in combat. Because you are never so close to enemy ship that you would see it. Like do you see the decals other ships have on them? Nope.

Pretty odd argument. Following that logic, they shouldn't have bothered at all with designing weapons and weapon animations; instead they could simply draw a (laser of tracers) line coming straight from the hull whenever we press the trigger.

Whilst these things look like huge fun, and I love the concept, I think they are going to turn out to be insanely powerful and could risk making smaller ships even less useful than they are now. In PvP these things are going to cause mayhem, potentially stopping a target from escaping and/or acting as a constant crowd control during combat. Its gonna be interesting to see how effective they are.

Again need to remind people that these weapons mods are *only* available from *specific* engineers, so will not end up on every other ship in the game. Just FYI.

The force shell sounds like it would be a great tool for pirates and blockaders. Currently boost, boost, jump is pretty much guaranteed to get you away from a situation like this, but I assume (assume) that getting hit by one of these force shells also slows you down as well as knocking you sideways...interesting...

On the other hand, Sidewinders and Haulers aren't exactly known to be the most feared PvP ships at present. Already the Cobra didn't react with unbearable tumbling when being hit and the Phyton (and I guess the FdL will react equally) was merely nudged. I don't think, this weapon will replace the more efficient, fast-killing weapons in PvP - especially, as there will probably be engineers that enhance those, too!

If at all, I predict seeing some "funny" noob-griefing vids at youtube with lots of lolz and stupid giggling.

One fear, though: Even just imagining that I sit in one of these small ships with VR headset mounted, I feel already a bit nausea... and NPCs will be able to use engineer-enhanced weapons, too, according to the 2.1 livestream (part 1).

But in general, I think that this weapon mod is mainly for PvE and here, it will allow lots of fun and entertainement!

Maybe I missed it on the list, but MB also mentioned that terrain texture quality has been improved AND with faster performance for 2.1. I think that's pretty big! :)

I agree, this is an incredibly significant change. Actually my original question concerning whether the tyre tracks had been added to the crashed DBX newsletter image in post production was alluding to the fact (as pointed out in Obsidian Ant's 1.6/2.1 roundup video) that the quality of the rocks around the front of the DBX seemed better than what we're currently used to (where loose surface rocks currently stand out as being somewhat separate from the planet surface).

  • No need for Discovery Scanner in order to scan Nav beacon.
  • Exploration data gained from Nav beacons can not be sold.

That second point is significant and answers something at the back of my mind re: my question which provoked the first point, namely, if scanning a nav beacon completely negated the need for a discovery scanner then it would make the outfitting trade-off re: whether to sacrifice a slot to a discovery scanner redundant (unless exploring outside the bubble). As it is (which is great), the deal is that scanning a nav beacon for system info is like buying the system info, it tells you about the system but you get no additional Cartographic bonus for it. If you want that payoff (and presumably the increase in discovery rank) then you do still need the discovery scanner. All good!
