Immersion - Cockpit on fire!

I really like the immersive nature of Elite, but there are certain minor things that bug me from time to time. One of these things is the ever so elusive way minor hull damage makes the Cockpit ablaze :O (when shields are down / not installed)

Even a tiny bump on a landing pad, surface terrain or just a smudge with another ship will make sparks and fire break lose in my Cockpit... I know it provides a fast visual/audio feedback when you take damage, but isn't it a bit out of place? What's your opinion about it? Do you have suggestions for a different way to provide feedback?

Could be nice if it scaled with damage rather then just being an effect of damage.
Bump something lightly causing little to do damage, near nothing other then grinding sound of metal?
get hit by a missile or such causing massive amounts of damage, bringing you below say 50% hull, things light up and complain.

That would be progress in the right direction. I think a relation to the integrity of the actual Cockpit HP % would be nice too. Or using the current effects only after your ship's hull is under X % HP. It just doesn't feel right at 80-100% hull when you bump into something from a totally different angle then your cockpit location (especially on big ships)

I also wish there was more of a progressive worsening when hull drops. I started to ignore it, since my shieldless eagle would always look like it blows up any second while teabagging in leesti last week

That's the Star Trek Principle: any hit on the hull MUST provoke explosions on the bridge. Apparently electrical engineers will be replaced by blind monkeys in the future.

You'd think that the Enterprise would be fitted with circuit breakers.

:cool::cool:

Just wait until ships are multi-crewed, the bridge will rock through 45 degrees and crew members sway from side to side, ending up hurtling across the fixtures and fittings face first... :cool:Echoing cries of "I cannae hold her Captain, she's breaking up!"..

lol, exactly!

I think I know what's missing during minor impacts: airbags. :D

Now that would be hilarious. You ram another ship and your view gets obstructed by airbags [haha]

Yeah they could nerf the sparks. Overuse lessens the impact.

I believe they did in the last (major) patch. Could have just been my imagination though. [wacky]

One can only hope that multicrew comes with amazing acting like this fine example.
