Make the Game a Bit Harder

After playing the game for a year (1-3 hours per week maximum), I cannot be happy enough about it! However, there is no limit to perfection, and here is the list of what I would like to see:

* reduced income for killed ships. Make the payments proportional to the damage inflicted;
* some enemy ships refuse to fight and fly in a straight line around you;
* increased price for some ships. Some ships feel like 3-10 times cheaper than they should be;
* decrease progression among ranks. I spent only a couple of evenings after 12-hour work shifts and gained 1 level easily in a faction!
* decrease price for sold installed units. Let players choose it with wisdom;
* change prices at stations more regularly so that third-party tools cannot track routes for you. You will need to buy information from others or stations.
* the new update, hopefully, will bring missions that are much harder as you climb the ranks. I seriously hope about it.

Elite and David, [heart] we love you! You managed to create a game that appeals to casual players like me and yet be complex!

I love the idea of making the game harder for the more experienced players, be careful not to make the game less fun or harder to play.
I think the way to go is making NPC fights better.
Missions harder to complete with adder better reward.
Traders being interdicted by ships that can destroy them.

Make what makes the game hard...harder. Not the everyday things like buying weapons or finding a trade route. Make it harder to use the weapon and fly the trade route.

For most of us its not about creating hell for other players. Its almost every time an attempt to get back to a more consistent experience.

At the same time, the OP very much is along the lines of "making it harder for the new player". I mean, what does it mean for us, who play since beta, if the income -now- is being reduced? We does it hurt us if some ships prices -now- get increased? If rank progression -now- gets harder?

It does nothing to us at all. We already have the money, the ships and the ranks. Thus the effect of most changes proposed in this thread would do only one thing: fortify the advantage we already have by already playing for a longer time, by making it much harder for the new player to catch up. Now please name any successful game where the baseline is "it was easy at launch, but was made much harder after a big portion of the playerbase already got to high ground". It requires some real masocism to join a game where you know that not only you are naturally behind long term players, but also have a harder path ahead of you than they had.

So we don't need reduced income. We don't need increased prices, we don't need slowed down progression. That's all just methods to punish those who come after us, those who still have to buy the game and thus those who will keep the game running and under maintainance, as our money is already paid.

The idea of harder content is fine, what Von Shadow is like what i mean: new areas, new content, new challenges which might be really hard to do. I would appreciate that a lot, but most of this thread is like so many other threads on "make things harder". It lacks vision and understanding and all the "reduce income" and "increase prices" does not increase the difficulty at all, it just increases the grind and drives away new players. (This game already now is renowned for being a grinder, do we really need more of that? )

[not worth quoting]

Ah. 100% biowaste. If you have nothing useful to contribute, it's usually a good advice not to contrinute.
