OK, I'll help get to 40 pages....

I read the first page and this page, got the gist and missed all the drama in between.

Carry on.

If you go back to around the Hutton blockade times, i think the player factions were just starting or about to, anyways here on the forums there were some very very salty folks who very openly started a group or two to do this. Im not going to name them, its their choice, but they discussed it openly and it carried over into multiple threads an there were multiple announcing the location. Anyways it isnt very hard to figure out which of the active forum posters from that time likely did this...

C'mon now.....nothing wrong with "name and praise" here, right?

Except that philosophy is applicable on oh I don't know, everything.

I don't dispute that. But just because you're interested in talking about it here, it doesn't mean that others will be. Or that a mod won't pull you up short for going OT! Having said that, you've got one person to bite...

As for your encounter, you could have very well submitted a complaint with evidence if you can confirm you met The Code. Otherwise it's an empty statement, The Code members announce its intention and the faction they belong to. Currently your accusation is like saying "I meet so and so this one time and he/she combat logged on me" without any proper evidence, which just about anyone can do.

Well, I'm a Mac player, so I don't do the whole video-recording thing. And besides that, I don't take this game seriously enough to fill out a complaint form and seek redress. It was a fleeting annoyance, soon forgotten. I mentioned it, as my sole encounter with any wing of player pirates, only to highlight the gulf between all the posturing (by multiple player groups) and the reality: that the game world remains 99.9% unaffected by our resident willy-wavers.

Incidentally, if t' Code does rise from the ashes at some point, I hope you learn to take yourselves less seriously. Your new guy (flyauburn41) who posted a few pages back seems to have the right idea. More "YAAARRRRR!" and less defensive nitpicking and "I think you'll find Nietzche said…" I might even join you then!

They did used to care for the system, and members of their group worked hard to expand through PVE to create a player-managed pirate region of space. 'Press announcements' were put out and FD fawned over The Code. Then inevitably players got bored and moved on and now The Code is a shadow of it's former self, with only a few PVPers left. Which is probably why they say that they don't care about their systems, the puny few left probably don't. So they stopped being relevant and the game has effectively ejected them. Those who continue to call themselves Code can still PVP all they like in Open, and good for them if they don't miss the notoriety their group used to have.

Interesting that SDC lost Wolfberg and now Code has been removed. Looks like factions providing 'emergent content' may be short lived? Maybe FD is housekeeping after the recent PR mess...

I specifically remember day one them saying they wouldnt care, and wouldnt defend it.

Anyways its shocking that people think boring player groups till they don't have the will to stay is positive, but i guess thats why this game has stagnated the way it has with no hope of recovery.

But that example only works if you believe that having a NPC minor faction is the entirety of the purpose of registration as a player group, which it's not as I've explained. In fact, The Code has proven that by becoming Triple Elite without having anything to do with BGS.

So if Code didnt want a minor faction, why didnt Code contact FD to let them know and also give another minor faction the opportunity to have that system?

Something just doesnt jive with your answers.....

It would be OT if it has nothing to do with the discussion, but I always keep my references on topic, so I guess I don't have to worry about that.

A simple screenshot can capture the name of those that attack you, so I don't know what is so hard about getting evidence of those that do attack you. Not to mention that there's no form to fill on our complaint section, which again, if you would look in that direction you'd realize.

Code never became ashes to begin with, we merely shifted our focus. I do my share of "Yarr" and my share of philosophy. I do the former in-game, I do the latter when debating with people. I do look forward to your potential pledging to The Code, and for your information, I think I'm the only one interested whatsoever in philosophy in The Code, so there's a comforting thought for you.

The Code registered as a minor faction to be recognized by FD, then we have to choose a system to be placed in. It's not that we wanted a name to be slapped onto a system/station, it's to be recognized as a player group. I don't know how familiar you are with the group systems and how everything works with groups, but I don't know how to explain it more simplistically and directly.

Perhaps you don't share that academic enthusiasm, but that's fine.

There's the kernel. I already said I'm not going to block you, and you're not the only one with academic interests. Instead of pulling you up on your typos when grammar, as opposed to semantics, is my own preference, I'm going to accept that, as usual, you've been tailoring your troll on a user-by-user basis. Ergo, I am merely responding to this post in order to state one thing: this is ELITE, not CoD. Most of us can read, I'm sure a large proportion of us are postgraduates or at least academically-minded, so using straw men and arguing trifling points of obfuscation are hardly going to wash over in the long run. I'll continue to read your posts, and I have stated, because half the time you talk sense, but I'll stop replying to them after this if you'd prefer me to, as it seems your replies would infer.

Seems to be.
I'll have to grind harder tomorrow.
Or maybe grab my vulture and find a CZ that needs looking at... or a HRES or something...

I've decided I'm not going into a res until I am surrounded by endless ice. The prospect is far too cool.

But undergraduate philosophising is so lovely. C'mon, no need to get involved. ;)

If you are an English major of something of similar nature, then I think we should have more in common than what is currently exhibited. I don't pay much mind to grammar unless I am graded for my writing.

It's not a question of whether people can read or not, but that how many can utilize their ideas that they derived from readings or originated from them (I don't mean Locke's view of sensation and reflection and their correspondence to ideas). There is no strawman here but an honest inquiry into the nature of discussion and the human condition.

My point stands as those that have an academic outlook should be more than happy to inquire into others' ideas and feel honored when challenged with objections and reasoned skepticism. Otherwise it's academic circle-jerk, which is, if anything, the worst thing that can happen to an academic.

You may reply whenever and to whatever you wish, like I said, there's not that much difference between the two of us.
