Why so much Slavery?

the only reason you say the economy sucks is because its a slave trade... if it was transporting medicine it would be A ok. think about how much it cost to outfit an anaconda or a corvette. its damn right expensive. they should of made it a drug trade instead then it would be somewhat civilized.

i have no problem at all with slave trades (in game of course!) - in character I tend not to do "normal" slaves but that is just me...... they are imbalanced however and rather than being 1 string in the tapestry of the economy they (both imperial and normal slaves) have become 2 of only a small handful of commodities which anyone bothers with. 80% of the commodities market could well be removed from the game as it stands right now, as outside of a few "fetch" missions there is just no reason to buy any of them after the 1st 30 mins game play.

This is a shame imo.

Why do people get hung up on (in game) slavery?
.
we have illegal drugs , weapons of mass destruction, illegal weapons toxic waste and so on yet people get hung up on slavery
.
Or is it just because its a money maker? mind you weapons of Mas destruiction can give you 2000Cr easily as well

Can't speak for others, my personal view is that illegal slavery covers a broad spectrum, not just forcing people to work in fields or clean some rich persons mansion for zero pay. Biggest form of slavery/trafficking in many parts of the world is for adult entertainment/brothels.. Not something I wanna be involved in real or virtually.

It's all zeros and ones, nothing should be taken seriously, still there is nothing wrong with making moral choices... On the flip side I'm a hypocrite in game, will happily haul tonnes of narcotics, keep convincing myself there are awesome party islands on Earth like worlds in need of some good class A's [heart]

That was what I meant when I started the thread; it seems strangely unbalanced vs. other commodities as well as the mystery of a) why are they going FROM Robigo and b) why are a few slaves worth such a lot of money?

A) The BGS needs work in the area of supply/demand. Also missions are basically 100% random so if you are getting them from the Shadow Deliveries it's just a roll of the dice. You could be anywhere and still get slavery missions.

B) Real slaves cost more to maintain than regular down-home wage slaves, particularly if you want to get anything resembling quality work out of them.

C'mon! Do you really think, it is about the bio-waste?
Nope! It is about the stuff that is hidden within the bio-waste! How many inspectors do you think are willing to do an in-depth inspection of these smelly canisters? See? ;)

That's the worrying thing. Just what are they trying to hide? They're normally pretty upfront about what the cargo is. Landmines, battle weapons even nerve gas they'll happily tell you about, so what is so terrible that it has to be hidden?

Ok, first reaction to the OP thread.....an A-rated Cobra in 2 days? That's around 7-8m CR depending on how you fit it, and you did it without using smuggling missions. Well done to you. Did you run Res Sites perhaps? I can't think of many other ways to get that kind of money that quickly.

Secondly, slaves, yes I'm the same, I won't touch them either for vague RP reasons - there are some other smuggling stations on the fringes of the bubble that have narcotics/ tobacco/ combat stabilisers as the main shadow missions with the odd slavery mission.

They other one that perplexes me are the endless kill civilian missions that seems prevalent in most systems - sanctioned genocide, again I avoid these. Not sure what FD are trying to say about their player base :)

I'm sure if you search these forums (use the advanced search) you will find a list of all the outlying stations that list shadow missions on their BB and what type of missions they list.

That's 48 hours of gameplay, sorry, not a few hours for 2 real days. Missions and some trading in Sidewinder, trading in an Adder (found a 4,000 Cr/T/Hr route) until I could afford the Cobra, then carried on with this until it was half-decently kitted at which point I did some RES sites which made me a couple of million and then missions and rare trading between Altair and a few other places until I had all the bits I wanted on the Cobra.

I have now found non-slave stuff, but my first shadow place was Robigo and they were 98% slave runs (with the all the economic peculiarities that is high value for slave labour from Robigo). I simply felt that, in a galaxy with FSDs, plasma weapons etc, there seemed to be a lot of money to be made from shipping around the most basic kind of labour. On the other hand, I just failed a shadow mission that involved delivering 2 tons of 'stolen' fruit and vegetables, so it looks like there are quite a few oddities in the economy :)

Am trying to map my own list of system with interesting missions while ranking up for a permit to Achenar, hence using Fehu as a base. Using my ADS concurrently to move up the Explorer tree.

Drugs, weapons and such are, of course, only used for ethically sound reasons... No comparison to slave trade! :p

Right?

High value Biowaste = dead slaves ground to mush.

It's obvious when you really think about it. The death toll among both Imperial and illegal slaves must be high. Somehow you must get rid of the bodies.

Why so much Slavery?

Because Frontier apparently feels that one of the most horrifying, dehumanzing aspects of human history deserves the merit of being one of the most sought-after, lucrative trade activities in the game.

Most of the world abhors the idea of slavery... strangely, Frontier glorifies and encourages it.

Yep, and GRR Martin clearly condones the subjugation and sexual exploitation of women and even underage girls, because the people in his grim and gritty fantasy world partake in it.

Also, every director of a crime series is secretly a mass murdering psychopath.

Can you feel the sarcasm yet or do I have to exaggerate even more?

I give you the benefit of the doubt and simply hope that you were not being serious.

Nowhere in the game is stated that slavery is good.

Elite plays in a darker, violent setting and it would be a bit unrealistic if there were no slaves imho.
