Why so much Slavery?

I think the balance is the issue and how the game is set up now to seems to encourage slave trading above all other things for fast game progression. I am fairly new to this game [noob] but for me it is the fast track to a better ship, rank or just credits. This method has been chosen by Frontier; a fact; by design or mistake, in the games current state Frontier encourages it.

It is their game we could be transporting Tribble's, baby seals to club or ____________ fill in the blank, the point is this is the game state and I for one will play it as is, but still I question the set up of this part of the game.

I do think there should be a slave trade in the game, but getting caught needs to be serious, like 10% of your credits, maybe you ship impounded for a time, whatever; but there is no risk now other than a few credits and some lost game time.

For now it is still great fun, but also I am VERY glad there is more to the game than just this.

What worries me - reflection on the human condition - is that I am sorely tempted to sod the virtual morality and just make some money :D

The real mystery is not the price of slaves but the high value bio-waste missions. How come someone is willing to pay hundreds of thousands to transport 'organic fertiliser' a couple of hundred light years when you can pick up something similar in most systems for a fraction of the price of a limpet?

Indeed. This is the thing that really bugs me about the current Elite missions.

LOL it is virtual morality, like every item in the game, and it is still a game,
last time I checked I didn't have even a Sidewinder parked next to my house, darn
so in my VR, I assume all the salves are child molesters and this is there sentence, but then I do pick up the occasional load of innocent enslaved Tribble's ;)

Yep, and GRR Martin clearly condones the subjugation and sexual exploitation of women and even underage girls, because the people in his grim and gritty fantasy world partake in it.

The difference being that in Martin's books, the child molester gets stabbed in the face a few times. The slavers have their cities burned, and masters fed to dragons or gutted on pikes. The rapists choke to death on poison.

In Elite, the successful slaver trader ends up an Admiral with a Corvette, a half-billion in the bank, and is offered the most lucrative assignments.

I want to see both Imperial Slaves and Slaves moved to passenger only content, as such we could then use the new system that generates faces/character profile and bodies as a way to breathe life and feelings into the Slave Trade.

For example Slave Trading would become a harder form of trading bypassing laws as well as buying the right slaves for the right job.

Imperial Slaves would be moved to being passenger only, though you could go rogue and sell them off somewhere the main intention is that you are only ever contracted to move the slave from A to B and thus Imperial Slave trading loses much of its current profitability whereas normal Slave trading rises up.

Normal Slaves could be bought and would be listed with ratings etc, if you are buying slaves you want to sell at a mining colony you want healthy younger males as they would be the best for that line of work.

In addition Imperial Clones could be added which could be the Imperiums version of Slaves and the Federation could have added different types of Robots/Machines as they make up a lot of the Federation.

Nowhere in the game is stated that slavery is good.

Elite plays in a darker, violent setting and it would be a bit unrealistic if there were no slaves imho.

The Empire would like a word with you :D

They bang on about how good slavery is for everyone whenever they get the opportunity (aside from the anime princess).

The best form of slavery is to keep your slaves relatively happy with your scraps and an illusion that they are not slaves but democratically free.
And a monetary system that takes monatary interest from your loans to the governments you set up & also takes interest from its general populace.
The secrecy of your existence should be absolute so use an avatar when conversing with the government partys you selected to run for office
3 maybe four parties per land mass should be sufficient to give the general populace the illusion of control.
So the monetary system is the best way to achieve this level of control eg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWSxzjyMNpU on the planet you wish to dominate.
monetary Interest is your primary tool, so declare all interest eventually goes back to the people via unnamed entities, which is of course not true it goes back too you so you can continue to ensure there enslavement and an unprecedented luxurious standard of living for you and your eirs
Ensure your eirs stay in the top 1% of the monetary system you create by any means necessary will be a necessity for your bloodline to remain overlords, war being the most useful tool to achieve this by setting one group of your slaves against the other and by selling them the guns to destroy one another so you have an automatic culling system so there are not TOO MANY SLAVES for you to maintain control of, artificial scarcity will be the tool you need to create to ensure your wars break out when you desire.......
this will give you rapid enslavement results to the planets populace you wish to enslave
if you can fool the inhabitants of the world you wish to dominate that energy conversion is expensive is very good and if you can get them to believe that energy is not infinite and abundant all the better.............. so once again scarcity should be your tool of choice and restriction control of scientific knowledge is essential, misguidance of physical law and planatary atmospherics implemented at an early stage of the worlds development for your control purposes, this will be broken by slaves in the course of time but is a good starter to implement at first never the less.
Getting all slaves to use your banks money is an essential goal which first must be accomplished once done that planet is basicaly conquered so onto the next relativly primitive world to take control of its gold and setup its first monetary system via the religion tool once established.
This process is slow but stands the test of true time so it works...........
(robotics were tried at first but biological indigenous are cheaper and self reproducing\ maintaining if liqiud water in abundance is present)

Good golly gosh add in some tax havens and you could almost think it was Earth you were speaking about.

So Elite is closer to real life. Sounds exactly like some historical US navy careers.

In GTA V, you can only progress through the story if you use torture, which is presented rather graphically. Does GTA V therefore glorify torture as a necessary measure?

In Modern Warfare 2, you partake in the mass murder of innocent civilians at an airport, all in order to not blow your cover as an antiterrorist spy who infiltrated the highest ranks of an international terrorist leader. Only to end the mission with you being shot because the guy knew you were the enemy all along and used you for his purpose of sparking a war between nations. What moral message do you think the game wants to give its players?

In Elite, you are hired to mass murder civilians, cops, resistance fighters, helpless traders for profit. You can engage in profitable bulk trade of firearms, battle weapons, illegal and potentially addictive and ultimately deadly narcotics... Yet somehow only the slave trade gets flak.

Because of the high profits from Robigo runs.

No player has problems with being a cold blooded mass murderer responsible for the grief of millions of families, or an arms dealer fuelling a war that costs millions of lives, or being responsible for the influx of hundreds or even thousands of tonnes of hardcore drugs that ruin the lives and enslave the minds of the young generations of a whole planetary society.

Not as long as they can look down on the slave traders and frown on them making their profits off of human suffering.

The ultimate hypocrisy.

Elite doesn't have a fixed narrative that directly governs the character's actions like a book, movie, TV show, or linear video game. It's pretty much up to you to decide what you want to do in the galaxy. If that means RP'ing a slave trader, arms dealer, drug runner, or terrorist, so be it.

Also your assumption that every criminal ought to get his due is naive. If crime didn't pay organized crime wouldn't exist.

You would have to be brain damaged to think that the Federation allows slavery in any of its systems.

Why don't you mention how Denton Patreus enslaved entire planets? Doesnt fit your volunteer slavery propaganda?

If you want to fight against the evils of imperial slavery and regular slavery then the Federation is your best ally.

You want to know what Federation citizens do if they are up to their eyeballs in debt? They file for bankruptcy protection and are able to continue being free while also being productive members of society.

If you recognize that slavery is morally wrong then Come and join Hudson or Winters in our fight against slavery.

In the Empire, if you end up in debt to the banks, you can enter in to a contract of servitude and work off your debt.

In the Federation, if you end up in debt to the banks, you can expect to stay in debt to the banks until you end up homeless, jobless, and stranded on some backwater world scrubbing dishes at a diner for a few credits an hour only to have the banks claim the precious few credits you've earned.

Imperial Slavery is Indentured Servitude that provides a steady flow of cheap labor for corporations and the government, as well as a safety net for it's citizens in the even they end up unable to repay a debt.

Federal Slavery destroys lives and families in the name of profit.

Praise the Emperor.
Bask in her Glory.

I just shoot Imperial Slave ships out of the sky because they're pack full to the brim of Imperials. Seems like an effective way to get rid of lots at once.

So, now... wait. You will murder a ship full of slaves and the pilot because you want to end slavery?!? That's Singapore's policy on drugs in a nutshell. Use drugs, have drugs, sell drugs? Bang. Dead. Want to stop obesity? Shoot 'em. Smokers? Shoot 'em. People who use acronyms while txtg? Shoot 'em.

And when did it become ok to murder humans in space ships because they bumped the entry envelope to a rotating space station but moving imperial slaves from here to there for profit is heinous?

You know, executing people for using acronyms while texting is a brilliant idea.

FAB to that utilizing the ROTC to execute:D
anyhoot this threads dark matter is to much to contemplate, that being the space between good vibrations
