Suggestion - Should we nerf the FAS?

It isn't balanced at its price, nor do its stats make any sense in comparison to every other ship in the game just about.

However It is fun to fly and I don't think its fundamentally overpowered, so I'd go with a paper nerf (make it more expensive) or a very small maneuverability tweak personally. But I also wouldn't be surprised if they leave it as it is, it matches up very well with the FDL and there are many ships that need balancing before that :p

No.

There, that was easy.

Now, more importantly, can we please nerf all nerf and buff threads?

:p

Oh I don't mind buff threads. It's only nerf threads that get my goat. People apparently wanting things to be LESS FUN. I honestly do not get it. "Hey FD, this ship is really nippy and spins on a dime, could you make it so it's less fun to use?" "Hey FD, this ship is really great, but I think it's too cheap, could you make it so that everyone [else] has to grind more until they can use it?".

Then in the next post there will be [probably the same] people moaning about how the game is dull and grindy.

Its amazing how people respond to a very simple and basic question as if you just proposed something horrific to their grandmother. For PvE I think both ships are fine, they can do everything they are supposed to do. The FDL is more expensive, but with 2.1 the c4 hardpoint should really start to make a difference. As for PvP, I leave that to others.

Okay, so unlimited speed and agility would be the most fun? If not, than the question becomes just how fast/agile a ship should be. And the answer could be 'less than what it currently is'. Or it could be 'more than what it currently is'. It could even be 'exactly what it currently is.' You decide that based on arguments, logic, evidence and explaining what your intention with each ship is. What you dont do is run around like an upset toddler screaming "IF YOU EVEN THINK ABOUT ANY OF THIS YOU HATE FUN!!!!!".

Nerfing ships opens options just as much as buffing things does but avoids power creep, its an important aspect of balance. If 10 ships are good at something, but 1 is overpowered, its better to nerf that one than buff the other 10, it also makes the 10 more viable because they no longer have an overpowered competition that promises better results if you do something you don't want.

Since the logic is "I have fun with the FAS as it is and nerfing it would reduce that fun", that seems like a suitable argument for leaving things as they are. I don't see any upset toddler so am not really sure what you're going on about there.

Maybe it does, but your statement assumes that something is overpowered to begin with, and lacks a suitable reference point. Also since the entire premis of something being overpowered appears to sit with whatever the pvp player of the moment wants, it's so highly subjective as to be next to impossible to resolve.

The fact that the PvP gang tend to use FDLs and FASs in groups suggest that these two ships are slightly OP.
But no manner of tinkering will change the amount of ships people use for PvP.
They'll always end up being a "Top 2" choices.

IMHO for PvE, most ships are balanced well. But PvP is a totally different game.
Balancing will be virtually impossible without just making every ship exactly like every other ship.

I know what your saying but only the players who test things to the limits actually know if something is overpowered or not, you can maybe make arguments about skill caps etc but the reason the PvP community is loud with nerfs is because the PvP community goes 100% towards their objective.

In PvE the player almost always wins, you can kill anything with anything but while I've easily killed an elite anaconda in an asp for example, I wouldn't stand a chance against a commander in the same circumstances, even a bad commander. Does that make the Asp overpowered? The anaconda overpowered? You can't judge because there are too many failures early on.

This isn't to say that the PvP community can't be mistaken though, or that PvE fun & balance isn't extremely important I always think people should bring their thoughts on such issues because some of the best points come from the general playerbase too.

An example of this btw was the FDL before they upgraded the powerplant, that ship was already the best combat ship in the game - it had power restrictions yes and you couldn't fit whatever you wanted to it, but it was extremely good, better than a python and in many situations better than an Anaconda unless they filled it with SCB's (which many did) the powerplant upgrade was just to appease people who didn't like that you couldn't fit whatever you wanted to it, but as a result it lost any restrictions on outfitting entirely and went from being the best combat ship, to even better the best combat ship lol.

I don't think the FAS needs nerfing, but I would like to see a better selection of high-end combat ships that can match both the FAS and the FDL. Maybe another 3 or 4 high end combat ships (1 or 2 locked to the alliance, the other 2 universally available).
