FDEV's attempt to cure the problem. HRP Meta dead?

Exclusive on last night's live stream Emissive munitions mod was shown. All the info you may need to hear is on the video so i will be linking that instead. You can see the mod at 9:27 mark.

Discuss.

these will be on kinetic based weaponry iirc so you have to lay down a good amount of MC shots before hand to light them up, and even then when you light them up, SR's can run chaff, seems perfectly ok

So by that logic SCBs is also dead by Railgun mod? Let's test everything first before jumping to conclusions.

Ludicrous! Logical, informed debate? Pah! Don't be so silly! [wacko]

We must immediately jump to conclusions and demand nerfs of and to all of the things before we even know what all the things are! Quick, marshall the troops - we simply must have a feel-pinion poll to demand changes!

*cough*

On a more serious note; people are once again jumping to all manner of conclusions before even beta drops. You would think it'd get old. But every major update, it's the same thing. I could set my (non-existent) watch by it.

Of course not Fang hence the ? on the topic ;) I am fully aware there are many more mods to be revealed, this thread is merely an attempt to hear opinions and probable future applications of the said mod.

Alright alright i should've phrased the topic better geez :D Not jumping to any conclusions here like i said i want to hear what others think.

FDEV are hinting at all manner of things; we won't really have a solid handle until beta; and even then, some edge-case application of weapons/ mods combinations will only come to light once the broader community starts fooling with it.

Edit: the assumption that HRP (and stacking of) is automatically an unintended outcome and requires 'fixing' (suggesting it is akin to 'cancer' is overstating and plausibly just a little offensive) would be a flawed one.

Looks like they are heading in the right direction with having weapons that can counter any build. So long FOTM builds and everyone running FDLs and FAS [up] Hopefully!

And what will replace it? Changes made without broader effect, just means the FOTM changes, it's not going to remove 'optimal' builds, because the game actively encourages this. There is a single 'best' DPS weapon. A single 'best' silent running ship. When you combine some of these elements, you don't get highly divergent builds; in fact this just narrows the range down to a specific combination.

A broader range of weapons that have reasonably equivalent DPS, or DoT; ships that have some logical thought placed on progression and similar goals; so that we don't all just gravitate to the same optimal builds to get a bunch of things done, and otherwise a hangar full of ships that get driven once or twice a week (at most).

Ships need to have more value across the board, and reasonable counters. That's not suddenly going to change without a pretty reasonable overhaul. Frontier have a lot more to do, than merely fudging some numbers using engineer 'magic sauce' mixes, frankly. I'm hoping that's not their actual idea of a cure for what are ostensibly a number of pointless ships. The maker help us all, if that's the case.

Yes, it's a great way of introducing different weapons and different outcomes so there is a broader array of options; but if there's one 'magic sauce' that's considerably better than the rest, for each technology, then it's just repeating the same outcomes.

This is where Frontier struggles a bit; balancing mechanics between ships. Again, one only has to look at the DPS capability for an all-rails FDL, and a shield on a type-7, to realise even the largest shield gen (which massively compromises cargo capacity) will lead to a destroyed ship, before it can escape. If there is never any chance of escape; if it's a forgone conclusion, then the developers (despite best efforts) have failed to balance damage versus survivability.

So I have some good hopes for the upcoming changes; it's hopefully going to re-shuffle the deck and provide a few different counter/ defense options. But if this simply leads to the same 'single engineer fix, is disruptively better than everything else' type thing, then we are back to square one, with a single upgrade, on a single ship, using a single weapon type, becoming considerably more optimal - and it'll just repeat the cycle.

Yep, let's just wait and see how the changes take effect and what impact the have.
Isn't that what a "Beta" is for? :p

I like this whole idea of lots of varitions for weapons and modules.
Like rock, paper, scissors, you never know how other pilots wil be equipped, will you equip a rock, and meet a paper, or will you be carrying the scissors, intriging gameplay coming soon.

When people say weapon X will destroy build Z they are under the false assumption that everyone will use the same loadout. Currently everyone (in regards to PvP) is using HRP silent running builds, before that everyone was stacking SCBs. With the Engineers it will still be possible to use a HRP build and maybe you will win most fights, but if someone brings missiles you'll most likely lose because all your modules will malfunction if you are shieldless. The same is true for the feedback cascade. Of course it will be a devastating weapon against SCB builds but how many people will you encounter who are using them? I think this will encourage people to use more balanced loadouts, they just need to make sure there is no ultimate weapon X and no ultimate defense Z. It looks like they are trying to introduce a rock-paper-scissors system which is a very good thing for balancing (if done correctly...).

Fly in a wing. That way you can equip Rock while your wingmates equip Paper and Scissors. I like the idea of specifically equipping member of your wing to be good at specific tasks.

And for testing ludicrously nasty things. Sandy even said so! :)

Speaking of Sandy. I hereby dub his new outfit as Yorkshire Sandy. The very British version of Yosemite Sam. I want a decal of that for my ship! A bobblehead would do too. :D

I am looking for to car crash that is going to be beta.

While I totally agree that the meta needs shaking up, I am always amazed at FD's approach of adding more stuff in to combat an issue they created in the last patch. Rather than take a step back and start over.

Oh no, things are getting more difficult! What if there is no "do this and be God" guide when 2.1 goes live? What if... we have to try things ourselves? What if not every attempt immediately works? Please roll back to 1.0, the world feels familiar and safe when I play 1.0. :(

Can't rep you more, so here goes :)

To me it looks like we will have to have HRP's and Shields as it maybe difficult to know what the other player weapons are. It's going to be interesting with so many different options available.
