So exploration as it is lacking. Sure the planets are nice to look at, it's fun to find a cool planetary nebulae or a planet with a weird pattern, but there's not an awfull lot of gameplay to it. (It doesn't help that frontier removed two of the most entertaining and challenging bits of gameplay we did have :|)
So the question is, as frontier does not seem very keen on improving exploration in any way, should salvage be a thing which is most profitable in deep-deep space while exploring?
This would firstly, encourage more people to go out and explore, as it would be much more profitable than before, and it would add a lot of gameplay (compared to what we have) such as:
- Deciding wheter take a small ship with high manuverability (like an asp) but a small cargo hold or take a ship with low manuverability (like an Anaconda) but with a huge cargo hold.
- Deciding wheter to pick up the cargo in the first place, sure it may be worth X millions of credits, but it's going to make your jumprange lower, which most explorers are quite keen on not happening.
Of course the items prices would have to be buffed alot, i'm thinking 2 million credits minimum at a distance of 30000 lightyears, but they should also be very rare, and often mysterious. Credits is one thing, but if someone find a mysterious cargo container with unusual properties, that would just draw more people in!
I'm quite tired of going around planets, finding one escape pod after the other, and tons of tons of narcotics and tea, it's not worth picking up, and it's frankly immersion breaking to see a crashed ship around every corner of a planet!
Have instead occasionally a crashed ASP, in a recognizable condition, with data canisters spread around it, that would be much more realistic and fun!
As exploration relies currently very much on the premise of mystery, it's very much doomed to decline, as the more people explore, the more publicize their findings, or just even get a first discovered tag, the less mysterious the galaxy feels, which is why i think we need some more actual gameplay to this very neglected profession.
So what is your thoughts on this?
