Horizons: What is different between right now and pre-horizons?

All i can say is that Horizons totally transformed the game for me. I see some others don't feel the same way, but its one more feature that was missing compared with Frontier. Now just need the ability to land on planets with atmospheres and enter gas giant atmospheres, and it will be super duper.... but FD don't plan on stopping there, life bearing worlds is on the cards. Woo hoo!

Planetary sites are creepy.
And beautiful.

First one I went to was just two lamp posts in the middle of nowhere.
Nearly killed me.

Second one I parked at a bay and got out of the ship.
Via some garage door onto the street.
Couldnt figure out how to get back in.
Drove around town looking at all the stuff like some country bumpkin in the big smoke.

Then I saw the happy green square disappear from my scanner.
My ship.
Gone.

Couldn't figure out the town and the control tower told me I had to be 3 ks out to call my ship.

I'd flown in over a big crater and the town was right on the lip so I thought I'd just drive towards the sun through the crater and call the ship from the other side.

Drove down into the crater.
And down.
Sunset.
It got dark.

The crater was bigger than I thought.
Much bigger.

And steeper. For about an hour I was lost in the dark, really unsure whether I would be able to get anywhere to call my ship.
And not knowing whether the game mechanics would allow me to get the ship back EVER.

It was frightenening in that defenceless way you get in Alien Isolation.

Mixed with that rage and impotent frustration when everything is your own stupid fault.

"Just keep swimming"
All good in the end.

Never been so happy to see a cobra cockpit.

I really wish I could suspend my disbelief to enjoy it like you DNA-Decay. For me it was: landed on a planet drove around, found some rocks, shoot them, gathered some materials, realised... damn I spent an hour for nothing usefull. Never landed on a planet again.

Those are still reviews, and not in the vacum (pun intended) on steam Horizons got only 60% positive votes... I've seen some really bad games that had more.

I choosed that review, because it had some videos attached (just being lazy looking for them myself), and found some were made by popular youtubers. You might have a different oppinion but it resonated with my feelings about the game.

None that matters really, I appreciate sound and graphics improvement but the gameplay remains the same ol' grind.
Planetary landing was added and its completly useless, you will drive SRV looking for materials for hours and get enough for maybe few weapon reloads, or find few canisters of gold. Most people probably avoided Horizons, (just look up steam reviews) so they came up with Engineers idea that gives advantage in combat to Horizons owners and instead balancing weapons they will generate them randomly now, their ideas include game breaking weapons too so I can't wait for Engineers, It's gonna be as marvellous as PowerPlay.

I am sick and tired of all the whining, passive-aggressive posts condemning ED as "empty, lifeless, content-less, whatever-less" by people that showcase their ranks indicating that they spent a 1000+ hours in the game. Either you are complete masochists or you are lying. If the game is truly so horrible, play something else and go away. In the case of "Kvas" I applied a little forum sanitizer now -> ignored.

I have the lifetime pass and so have the horizons update automatically, and I can honestly say that I have hardly noticed.

there are some 'surface missions' on the BBS but so far nothing that seemed interesting or profitable.
you can land on planets, but only uninhabited lumps of rock, I landed on one once... have never had reason to do so again...

If I had had to 'pay' for horizons then I would be feeling very very ripped off right now.

Look, I really like the game, I have a lifetime too, and bought a couple of T-shirts and paint jobs. Like I said I appreciate improvement, especially to the sound, but I cant say the same about all previous updates. Ships was good and needed for the end game players. Yes I spent a lot of time playing the game but I wish there was a cohesive delvelopment, so far we had PowerPlay that is outright stupid, and CQC that doesnt even tie with the game (I love CQC btw). I was positive till yesterday when I read about stupid RNG Engineers and I thought -"here we go again!"

I dont like grind and I am trying to avoid it, by this time I would be probably flying Anaconda like everyone else, Its just, there is no persistance, cohesion, or agency in this game, your actions doesnt matter, you might have a different welcoming at the station thats it. I REALLY HOPE this will be adressed with upcomming patch, but it's been more than a year and nothing really changed.

I know its hard to develop complex procedurally generated missions... at least put some effort for scripting community goals God damn it...
break up the monotony the game throws at you.

/Rant over. I dont want to be negative, I want this game to flourish, but I would be lying to myself if I said everything is good. Yes I must be a masochist still playing this game.

Greetings Commanders!

I haven't logged in to ED in many many months. I still haven't got around to buying Horizons and I just wanted to ask this question:

What will I do differently gameplay-wise if I were to purchase Horizons?

I played ED for many minths starting with the steam release, but quit a few minths before Horizons was released. Last I checked, the main feature in Horizons was planetary landing on worlds without atmospheres. So how has that affected what you do in game and has anything else significant been changed since pre-horizon days?

You can still drive around on empty worlds doing nothing.

You can still grind for credits trading

You can still sit a t a RES and grind credits from NPCs that spawn especially for you

You can still jump from system to system, hold a button and earn credits.

So yeah, it's all still the same.

If this game wasn't called Elite, and didn't have it's heritage, I wonder if it would ever have even sold 10000 copies?

What if it was called "Space Explorer 3301"

Would as many people have bought it and given it as much "time" as many have to allow the devs to "complete" it

Aye, starting with Steam reviews and closing with the king of whinge himself Mr Worthabuy.

The real quality stuff.

Mack is the king of honesty, if you don't like his videos don't watch them.

For me he's an honest YouTuber and he gets a lot of hate from people because he's not afraid to say it like it is.

Stick to your sponsored IGN videos, you'll be much happier with their fake fluff

The game is amazing , I think your negative outlook on the game is a shame.
the game is full of things to do.

The game has changed a lot sins gamma.

and indeed the game would have sold well if was called something else.

Elite dangerous is an amazing simulation with depth intresting lore and wonderfull things to see.
A perfect scale that can put you in awe like nothing else can.

A combat system that resembles Xwing alliance and goes back to how games used to be.
Its a role players heaven , a game that will not hold your hand or give you boring scripted missions that everyone else has to do , its an open universe , a lifesim.

Yes, and we'd be giving DB a call to let him know there's someone cloning his classic!

It's just not the game for you dude. If you need hand crafted missions that couch it all in a story that moves you and makes it feel personal with characters you care about get a one player game.

Opinions are subjective , not objective. and in my opinion I think worthabuy have no idea what they are talking about.
Rather me some jim sterling or totalbuiscit (who loved elite dangerous) or yahtzee (yahtzee put elite as his n1 real game of 2015)

Well, he actually revisited the main game and made a new review, I wasn't even aware of that, I never watched his videos.
