black holes have been made harmless?!    !!

So a nice little message to the devs!! Who you got over there in charge of programming? I mean it's a great game so far and all, but what's this Body Exclusion zone horse manure smellin     !!! Isn't this game supposed to be as realistic as possible?! You can't even get a good view at black holes event horizon, because of an invisible barrier!! Lamest of the lame!! If I want to fly into.a black hole in better damn well have the option too!! Stop barriering<--not a real word! All the dangerous stuff and make black holes and singularities traverseable. I don't care what calculations you use as far as pilot skill and control over ship during the Traverse, whether it's shaking to high heaven or disorientating as hell while navigating through one. Just stop barring all the good aspects of the game. If someone gets to close to the black holes field of force they should die, or their ship should be torn apart molecule by molecule. Or make it extremely difficult to escape certain black holes event horizonso, make gravity stronger than it is. My ship should be pulled towards the vortex if I get within its gravitational pull, it should be near impossible to escape it, while only the BEST pilots will survive to tell the tale!! Just seems like the Dangerous in the name should be changed to harmless. Because aside from running out of fuel in the middle of nowhere, there is LITERALLY NOTHING DANGEROUS about this game!! False advertising maybe, but definitely not dangerous at all...:(:( I had extremely high hopes for this game, but it just seems the more I play the less immersion is felt..this is a sad day for humanity!!

So you want to make blackholes properly dangerous and realistic?
If your ship is being torn apart by a black hole, there is zero chance of your escape capsule making it out.
The "exclusion zone" is a failsafe built into our shps to stop CMDRs doing totally stupid things, such as flying into black holes. There is an override, it's called "self destruct".

1. Black Holes aren't even dangerous. Go learn about them.

2. Our ships can travel faster than the speed of light. Meaning they can escape a black holes gravitational pull.

You couldn't make black holes do to a player what they would truly do anyway. Even supposing that with the use of FSD technology it was possible to escape the event horizon of a black hole, and further supposing that you have some method to hold your ship and yourself separate from the tidal forces that would rip you into atoms as you approach the singularity, the time dilation of your close proximity to the black hole thanks to relativistic effects of extreme gravitational acceleration mean that you would escape into a future time probably decades, centuries, or even more removed from the present time.

No one in the game would ever see you again. Ever.

Best to just pull some game magic and make it impossible to enter in the first place.

all goid points!! But Frontier need not come at us with "this game is realistic" when it isnt.takes a toll on the game and the players immersion. but I'm not the developer just somene putting money into a falsely advertised game, which screams fraud infraction!! just my opinion

Well, apparently SC and Hyperspace jumps don't apply time dilation at all. So basically nothing would happen to you if you entered the event horizon anyway (unless maybe you dropped out of SC and flew around a bit).

I mean technically we should experience time dilation just flying around in realspace but we don't.

Timey-wimey stuff is weird and wouldn't work at all in a MMO game at all.

Selective reading? The event horizons for normal stellar black holes are far far far smaller than people are led to believe.

I can see this went way off topic! OP was why aren't they pulling us towards them instead of limiting pilot error! Not how big they are or how small the event horizon is, simply why eliminate pilot error in a SCIENCE FICTION GAME!! I guess you'd have to have played since 84' the year I was born in order to understand frontiers misleadings, and not so great attempts on delivering a true space sims experience. but hey good try anyway, too many things besides harmless black holes that you can't get close enough too. Such as only 2 or 3 populated bubbles and an infinite galany of possibilities if your interested in fuel scooping ever hour for 20 mins and no way to restock or resupply out in the void..just to name a few

No it's not, the Exclusion Zone is for areas that are not finished, Planets do the same thing if you fly towards them.

So do stars. But you are quite right about the exclusion zone for planets, it is a convenient way of not accessing incomplete content.
Maybe FD will eventually come up with an Elite Darwin expansion that will make the OP happy.

All it takes is that short time you're pulled out of supercruise into normal space and the time dilation effects I'm talking about kick in, and it's too late. That's exactly what I'm talking about.

But of course time dilation wouldn't work in an mmo, which is why I'm fine with the exclusion zone thing.

I see. I admit it's been a long time since I studied astrophysics (on my own time, not in a formal setting).

It would be cool if black holes' had some more effects though. Accretion disks, a better lensing effect, maybe a distortion effect on sensors from the radiation emitted from active black holes too.

What exactly is unrealistic about safety systems on a vehicle that prevent the Pilot from making a fatal mistake. Many new cars on the market today come with just such features like the ability for the car to apply the brakes to keep you from plowing into the car ahead.

I tend to agree with the OP this game is not dangerous at all, most safety systems have an off switch.

OK so you switch off the safety system and fly into the black hole or whatever, you could have some sort of interdiction game here and if you lose your commander is gone and you have to start a new one from scratch NO rebuy screen.
