2.1/1.6 Stopping people playing?

Why would I stop playing waiting for the update release?

It's not like I'm whatever you do in the game until then will be lost.

@ OP. No, can't say I feel that way what-so-ever. In fact it's the complete opposite for me. Me thinks you need some self-motivation, not others trying to motivate you.

...So basically knowing this update is coming, is making me want to play ED even less! ...might see a big spike when 2.1 comes out.[up]

The recent livestreams have got me back in to playing, along with the excitement around 2.1 - which oddly I'm not feeling quite as much as many, or so it seems.

For sure there will be a spike after 2.1 arrives, and after a while number will drop away again, it's the nature of 'the new'. A bit like my gym/swimming pool in January, full of new-years-resolutionists.

I'm happy enough with ED, and I've certainly got my money's worth out of it, even if I never played it again.

I came back around Christmas for Horizons, found that missions were broken and the planetside content was uninteresting and poorly implemented, and got bored within 2 weeks. If they can get missions working well in 2.1 I'll be interested in playing again - none of the other promised 2.1 content intrigues me at all.

Playing right now. Don't have much time for games at the moment, but the only serious competition to E:D is Guitar Hero Live for me.

I started playing again yesterday just because of the upcoming 1.6 (not buying Horizons until I know it will contain things of interest to me to justify the additional cost) as the new approach to missions sounds like it will be worth a look. So now just getting used to the controls and gameplay again in preparation. Its nice returning after a long break, hopefully 1.6 will come out before I get bored of the repetition again and go back to Fallout 4.
The Distress Signals was something new so nice to see ED are adding some variation in minor updates, I did find someone needing fuel but have no idea how to give them any??? Also finding that escape pods are illegal cargo, bit disappointing that I cannot rescue anyone without incurring the wrath of the law!

I'll be back if they make the Cutter worth buying with this update, not getting my hopes up though.

I'm not playing much until 2.1 comes out. Just can't summon up the motivation.

Pretty much the same here, I find it hard to keep playing when in my mind I am constantly thinking, 'this is changing, that's gonna change' .. still not long till I get my hand's on the Beta so .. not too worried.

Aye laddie.....I agreee

but what's worse is when the BETA drops, and it's weeks if not another month before the it's implemented.

So for me as a miner with 1.3 crashing, and 1.4 offering improvements, then I had those improvements in my hand......I basically stopping mining in the main game for 2-3 months....

By the sound of it, even if 2.1 were perfect you would be bored after two weeks.

Your probably right, I might just be clutchin at straws.

Watched the latest live stream and heard them say "There are a few new missions but we concentrated more on improving the existing ones"

So basically the majority of the missions will be the same as before, just made with more fluff.

Kind of disappointing really, I don't even know if I'll last two weeks!

I already have a conda and a few other ships, been on planets, explored, traded a LOT....

Still, I'm trying to be a glass half full about it all.

Ice asteroid mining sounds interesting...

There are new mission templates being added, & they're adding back in the bugged ones from the 1.5/2.0 launch.....so that gives a fairly wide variety of mission templates to choose from-even before the flavour that will be added by the system state, government type & faction type that are handing out the missions (which I think will at least add to the *perception* of greater variety). For me, the addition of *context* is as important-if not even more important-than the variety of templates!

For me, though, where the real potential for variety will come is via branching mission mechanics. First up, counter-missions from rival factions will offer greater rewards-& consequences-making them a much more tempting choice. Secondly, branching mechanics will now, apparently, be potentially cropping up during most other kinds of missions-which means that missions will probably be a lot less linear than is currently the case. Having missions being able to be handed out in space is also a big plus for me.

If anything, the upcoming update actually brought me back into the game. After watching a couple of those "Road to Beta" videos, I started playing again to earn a few more credits to prepare for when the new toys show up. [smile]

I get bored when things are repetitive and ED has repetition en masse. So yeah, I played since early access when we got the deal with the free Eagle. Went on a long break though when I felt I was just treading the same water over and over.

It's the same missions, to do the same things, and only difference is the name of the systems.

Picked the game up again 2 days ago. So far it feels exactly the same as it did before I took a break. Only thing I found refreshing was the "Distress Call" where I found a ship needing fuel the first time I went in and I found a ship under attack by several waves of pirates the second time. I liked that. Why did I like it? Because it had a random element to it. That is all it takes to make the experience slightly more interesting.

If I know that every Distress Call is some dude wanting fuel then I stop going there. Plain and simple. But when there is a random event it makes things more interesting right away.

So why aren't missions like that? When I go to do a mission why isn't there A, B, C ... X, Y, Z different outcomes to that mission?

Depth and complexity.

The game is in dire need of this. Everything is so basic and single layered currently, and has been since it was released. Shoot 70 pirates. Transport 60 units of goods. Mine 50 ore. Doesn't help when the AI combat pilots are incompetent to the point where they sometimes don't even turn their ship but just fly in a straight line doing barrel rolls while spamming the comms with "I didn't see this coming". Please.

Last time I did a community goal I fell asleep in my chair while I was shooting an Anaconda. It was that easy to do combat.

It seems to me, from reading this and other ED forums, that an awful lot of players have next to no hand eye coordination. sRV undrivable, yeah right, if you're ham fisted. Twenty minutes needed to dock, yeah right.

Imagine the upset if the AI suddenly starts having a g clue? ED seems to be set at a level that people with dulled reflexes can handle. Mind you, when 90% of the user base seem to insist on using mouse and keyboard, they aren't exactly giving themselves much of a chance.

Hi,

I took a break from ED for a few months because things were beginning to feel very stale, empty and rinse repeat.

Ive been looking at the 2.1/1.6 updates and they seem pretty good, hopefully they will fix the mission issues etc.

Only thing is, i sit here with nothing to do and think, shall i play ED?

And then i think, no i cant be bothered, ill wait for 2.1/1.6...

So basically knowing this update is coming, is making me want to play ED even less!

Wonder what the player numbers are like these days, might see a big spike when 2.1 comes out.[up]

Yea I start the game, look at the screen and log out.... I have a lot of love for ED but these forums are full of people who are bored of it.

Some of the very best PvP combat pilots (not me) use mouse and keyboard. :/
