Devs? Pls fix the external Camera

I'm sure there might be a very good reason the external camera is as awkward to use as it currently is, but please - just fix it.

It seems silly to have such an option but then make it really awkward to use. Yes, we can all muddle along and get the external views we eventually want but it shouldn't have to take 5-10 minutes to do something that could be done in 5-10 seconds.

I know some players think "it's part of the charm" but I don't. Maybe give us an option to have the camera view with current controls or newer easier ones, that way everyones happy.

Sorry to grumble, especially as this has no doubt been mentioned before.

This is something I had lived with as we didnt have liverys before. But now i think it needs improving.

It's like that so it doesn't give any advantage in combat. They didn't really want a third-person view anyway, but everyone was so insistent they just bodged one on.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news old bean but the 'external camera' as you call it, is actually a dev tool called a 'debug' camera!

I can only imagine that it's sole use is for space bums to clean dead space bugs from your vessel while you are docked; what, what!

Here's a fix for the camera that doesn't provide an advantage:

Have a hot key that allows you to 'record' the position of every object, player and npc (in your specific instance) for a specific period of time. This is all just numbers, right? Just the basic game telemetry.

Once that information has been saved to a file ... let me reload it and play back the session inside the game engine. Allow me to control camera position, multiple angles and perspectives. People have been making great 'ctrl-alt-space' videos but what can currently be done is still very limited. Recording the telemetry data from the game and then playing it back would allow you create amazing video compilations without providing and advantages to game play since you'd effectively be reviewing scenes recorded in the past.

Thanks for that reply. But I just wanted a slightly easier way of looking around the outside of the ship. That solution is, in all honesty, most likely beyond me :)

Capital idea old man; what, what!

Simple, effective and soon to be ignored by the devs, what!

I like the fact that there is no 3rd Person view... it makes the fight more realistic and you have to use the radar...

If there is one grating thing in this game it's gotta be the totally amateur debug camera!
I love making screenies and movies as there are so many cool looking locations in ED not to mention the many paint jobs that ED are happy to flog you but can hardly view properly.
I have decided not buy any more candy from the store till they implement decent external views, neither am I going to purchase a second account.

I know on one of the live streams somone did ask why the external was so bad compared to Pc. I think it was Gary (dont quote me on that) agreed & said they would look into it. So it might improve in the future.

Eva for repairs? I'll be going Eva just rub my self up and down my Union jacked cobra....... Very nice (Boris Johnson voice needed for mental image )

WOW Thanks! With one post you've made me so thoroughly rethink buying the Union Flag job that I'm considering a lobotomy.

Gonna switch to all white paintjobs now, just in the vain hope of some purity in my life.
you be out polishing your white paint and that Union Jack will show through in a scratch or where you have over jealously buffed and BANG Mental image!!!!! ……… forever

The DEBUG view was originally unavailable to players. It was added by Frontier for their use to get screen-shots in the game.

It was then, after a lot of pressure from the community, made available to players. In the BETA release, players were using it for an instant 3rd person view, giving them peripheral vision in combat, so when Frontier saw this, they slowed the speed of the camera down and added the pop-up message on start, making it too slow to use as a third-person view. That was very much intentional.

Hope that clears this up for you.

This is exactly why it is so cumbersome. In the original Elite you could look behind really easily which was very useful when under attack.

The original of course had your instruments and radar in all the views, nobody is asking for that here just decent views.
Flyby, chase, tower and spot views would be brilliant.
