Sohoa: where is it?

Years ago when Elite was in FFE I used to do imperial runs between Venuses and Sohoa but now Sohoa has vanished.

Even a search reveals it's gone, where is it has it been swallowed by that mutant space goat?

A bunch of influential senators in Sohoa became a nuisance for the Emperor with their ridiculous dreams of democracy and liberty for all, so the Empire eradicated the system. ;)

If its a real life star it will probably still be there, but they (Mr Brookes) may have used one of its other names on this occasion. I couldn't access anything from work to help, I'm afraid.

A quick search on the various 3rd Party tools does not reveal anything named Sohoa. Sorry.

And isn't there a good Chinese Food place in Soho... Lee Ho s? I hear the haver a big dish of Beef Chow Mein.

Sohoa was a procedurally-generated system on the FE2/FFE map, not an actual in-real-life star. A lot of the procedurally-generated systems from FE2/FFE that had bright stars and were too close to Sol have had to be eliminated from the ED map, because if they were added to the map there'd be a bright new star in the sky of Earth that shouldn't be there.

Going through the FE2 Gazetteer and searching for the stars listed in that book, we find a few other Lore systems missing:

Enaness, the famous Independent Communist system not far from Lave which got a mention on one of the Frontier short stories.
Extila, one of the most abundant agricultural planets in the Empire.
Liaququ, source of many famous pharmaceuticals extracted from the local starfish-like lifeforms.
Quphieth, a feudal system famed for being the native planet of the "planimals" such as the whispering palms featured in one of the Frontier short stories.

Another side effect is the Quince anomaly: Quince used to be a core Imperial system, but it orbits a red giant that I assumed would have been readily visible from Earth. Rather than omitting it entirely, they dumped it far, far away, so you can't actually see the star from Earth anymore, turning Quince into the remote outpost of the Empire we all know and love today.

ED is starting to look more and more like a reboot lol :)

I used to love all those generated systems now they are gone the map doesn't feel the same as FFE which is a shame.

Well, to be fair, the old proc-gen name system was fairly simple: a collection of 30 syllables, with three syllables selected at random from the list and stuck together. Doing this can only generate 24,360 possible name-combinations, in a galaxy with over a billion stars - so there were lots of repeated names. The only reason you didn't see more duplicated names was that the inhabited bubble was pretty small in FE2: only 647 inhabited systems; in this game, that number is more like 10,000.

The ED proc-gen nomenclature system generates unique "names" for each proc-genned star.

Whilst I do see the problem it does break the link in some way to previous Elite versions. Couldn't they just have added the stars but for some reason not have them visible from Sol?

There was a hill? It looked more like a cliff to me
Lol yeah ya could be right +rep

The Mutant SPace goat was real. They put me on Ark B and I barely made it away with my life and my soap. Lord knows how many planets that thing ate.
Don't tell me when they add landing on atmospheric planets your going to declare the leaf as legal tender and remove loads of the forests to stop a fiscal catastrophe lol ;)

You know how the Empire handles such affairs... ;)
