Why can't xbox have a beta?

So i was thinking after the events of the last patch, and frontier saying that they are weighing the benefits of having an xbox beta, i think it's pretty clear we need one. I'm interested to hear some thoughts on it, but i think it would be worth their time. The last thing they need is to spend time rush fixing and issue that could of been weeded out in beta.

Gary said they'd have to commit developer time to putting up and maintaining a beta. Plus it would have to be a pay-for beta "because of how Xbox works".
I don't think so, the beta could be invite only for GPP players as he said. I don't see why any paying would need to be involved. Developer time well spent, it's better than having to make an emergency patch and less stressful i am sure

Yeah, but i believe it would be time very well spent in insuring less bugs made it into the final build. I mean yes PC does this but some bugs are Xbox Specific it seems like.

Yea I don't really get it either. How can a beta not be worth when full release is going to be just that? Unless they are really so sure that nothing will be broke but I really wouldn't take that chance after 1.5

All beta access is paid for. Us PCers have to pay to get it as well. If I was buying the game now I would not bother as it just gives you access to the expansion a couple of weeks early and you can't carry over anything to the full release. However, I have beta access because I backed at that level during kickstarter. It was worth it then because we had access to the game long before release.

I'd like a beta. There are a lot of things that I'd like to test and tinker with without the risk of losing lots of money.

WoT Xbox supertest (seperate beta client) is free.

Actually, I suppose because the main game is 'free' but I've typed it now so it seems a shame to waste it)

P.S. I haven't got time to play the main game so I won't be signing up to test

Gary explains very well why there probably won't a beta in this video.

Skip to 30:30 and Gary will start talking about it..

As nice as it would be, you have to remember that FDEV is a small studio, and they already have a tonne on their plate. Larger studios farm out porting duties, FDEV are on it themselves. I think an extra beta (that meets MS desired standards anyhoo) may well be stretching them too thin tbh. I havent seen the vid so if I'm parroting Gary then I apologise...

Haven't you any idea how many people work on the xbox version dusty?
I wish I'd asked that question before this stream tbh.
I'm planning on picking 2.1 up as soon as it hits but I am worried that it might have serious problems.

They are testing it.. though we are not.

i believe there are a dozen devs working on the Xbox version.. but that is just.. "ive heard, that...." dont pin me on it.

Also, those devs are play testing it, and they also said its running amazingly well on a XboxOne.

I think it will be alright..

Their team didn't do that good of a job with 1.5 though.

Thanks dusty btw that was obviously supposed to be have you any idea not haven't ,very occasionally autocorrect will make me look clever but most of the time it makes me look like a chimp with a typewriter.

we all agree on that one.. lol

But now they are synced with PC.. this might makes it more easy to filter out some bugs.. instead of rewriting old code for XboxOne.

Well I would hope that we are sharing ED's core code with the PC build so many of the bugs that are found in the PC beta should also be squashed for the xbox - in this way we get some benefit from the PC beta.

It's not the same as a beta on the native platform though. I'm looking forward to 1.6/2.1 on xbox, but with some trepidation - the current build 1.5.04 is quite solid. I think bugs are inevitable in what is incoming, lets hope they are not too serious and FDev are able to quickly patch any showstopper issues that turn up in the released version.

Could have been worse *cough*The Division*cough*

I foolishly bought The Disappointment because all my friends were playing it... Two weeks later it's dead in the water and everyone's gone back to better games.

I've returned to Elite, feeling dirty, but that feeling subsides with every scumbag pirate I kill with my shiny new Clipper. And the money I intended to spend on Ubisoft dlc is now going on Elite paint jobs :)

Well they fixed 1.5 being unplayable for some like several days later. Pretty sure they worked around the clock to get the fix out. :)
