Planetary graphics in 2.1

I think I heard in one of the livestreams that they're going to fix some graphics/performance issues on planets with 2.1. Could someone please confirm this?

I hope so because the ground around bases looks like brown or grey space, also the absence of shadow looks terrible....the landing bay doors popping in and out of the bases also looks kinda bad

I also hope that the shadows and multiple light sources will be added at planetary surfaces. Now, most bases and ground structures look like from 15 years ago. Shadows are really important for the subjective impression of volume and realism.

Definitely need some graphic performance updates in certain areas in addition to planetary landings (galaxy map, sitting in the hangar in a station); no clue why my gpu has to work harder in these scenarios, there should be fewer assets to draw (unless the gpu is still being instructed to render non-visible triangles as well as visibles).

Hopefully they fix the weird starfield lighting issues too...

Landed on a moon facing the sun afew LS away, and the starfield was far too bright. As soon as I took off and got to about 100km high, it went dark, despite me not changing course....? It also flashes alot lol

you mean the strobing of the light?

ive got that, and it ruins every planet i land on. its like some one is messing with the light switch..

Asteroid rings are being pimped up too

Indeed, this is certainly one of the main hopes in my opinion, a return.. or close to, what we had before the optimisation malarkey old wound. I doubt we'll get an extended draw distance (one can hope) but at least a return of some of the fog/mist to hide this rather obvious 2d to 3d transition we have currently.

Yeah, as we all know it's all about shadows/lighting. I personally don't think the textures are particularly in need of improvement though I'll take it if it's coming, like you say it's all about the shadow effects on planetary surface that brings out the perspective and dependent on the light source's position, the higher the star on the horizon the more bland the textures look it seems. Of course any performance gain planned is also welcome, I currently run a resolution of 3440x1440 and see a frame rate of about 30fps at worst with srv lights on, playable.. just.

Exciting times!!

Oh yeah.. has anything been mentioned about multiple light sources or is that coming later? Perhaps we'll be getting coloured light sources (in the red spectrum specifically that we only seem to get from nebulae, not red stars)?

From what I've seen they've also improved the graphics on earth like worlds. Added some reflection/specular to the oceans etc.

No what i mean is a bug, the shadow is strobing on and off. Even if im on the dark side of a planet it will go bright to dark.

But i dont fps issues, got a rock solid fps where ever i go.. planets, stations all the same 60fps. And i run the game on 7680x1440 on ultra.

Oh yeah that, the shadows not quite consistent sometimes, indeed, hopefully that'll be fixed.. agreed.

7680x1440? (edit: I bet that's awesome btw :)) Flippin' heck.. how many 980tis (or Titans perhaps) are you using for that?
