Planetary graphics in 2.1

Got to disagree with this, for me the rocky/ice planets looks like balls of fuzz from orbital cruise distances (3440x1440, Ultra) so I hope this update addresses that.

Yeah ok I agree when you're in orbit, I was really referring to what they're like on planetary surface, to all intents and purposes are quite good (considering most are procedural). To be honest it isn't consistent is it, some planets, usually moons when the distance you are from the surface even in OC is relatively close and quite detailed, perhaps it is when the distance is quite large on the bodies with a larger radius the textures aren't as good [?].

Oh yeah that, the shadows not quite consistent sometimes, indeed, hopefully that'll be fixed.. agreed.

7680x1440? (edit: I bet that's awesome btw :)) Flippin' heck.. how many 980tis (or Titans perhaps) are you using for that?
its awesome :p i use 2 titan X's with EVGA hybrid kits on them.

had some stock coolers on them first, but those are a joke. damn 84 degrees on those.. now 35-40 on full load.

Hmmmm, you've made me sufficiently jealous, coolers sound good :). I've just one 980ti which does my x34 pred well enough though because I'm just on that threshold of 30fps I'm considering another (60+ everywhere else but planet surface with srv lights).

Now you've peaked my interest and I'm nosey what screens are you running and any more detail you'd care to share on these coolers?

The coolers are really awesome, but they didnt have the titan x versions of them left so i put the gtx980ti coolers on them.

I run triple Asus ROG PG258Q g-sync monitors.
not having to use v-sync saves some gpu use to.

nvidia are doing the paper launch of the 980 replacement tomorrow (hard launch at Computex) so might be worth waiting to see what that brings. If the rumours are true it could be in the 980ti performance range but we will see. If nothing else once stocks are readily available it will bring down the price of the existing cards such as the 980ti for a few months before those stocks run out.

Cool!! You seemed to answer my edited reply concerning the coolers, interesting that the 980ti coolers fitted though from appearance they seem close in architecture. Good idea as I've seen my 980's temp up in the 70s+. G-sync certainly helps too, I noticed that with my pred. Thanks for the info (and tip) :)

My thoughts exactly, particularly about the price drop :D

Feeling like a peasant with my single 980ti with 1080p G-sync display. :D Though 120fps on planet surfaces is pretty sweet...

the gtx980ti has the same chip as the titan x, only a bit less v-ram. something that issnt fully used with gaming at the moment :p

and if i seem to remember right, the clockspeed of the 980ti is higher than the titan x to :p
