Devs? Pls fix the external Camera

Have a hot key that allows you to 'record' the position of every object, player and npc (in your specific instance) for a specific period of time. This is all just numbers, right? Just the basic game telemetry.

Once that information has been saved to a file ... let me reload it and play back the session inside the game engine. Allow me to control camera position, multiple angles and perspectives.

Well, uh... I'm glad I don't have you for my project manager...

No plans to change the external camera. It's meant for glamour shots, not for combat. :)
For glamour shots it would be nice to be able to control the camera position with the mouse, as an idea/example, have it move more quickly so we don't spend quite so long trying to get the damn thing in position, etc.

It would be nice if there were hotkeys for certain camera positions i.e. directly behind, directly in front, to either side, below, above, etc.

There are a load of things you could do which would make it more useable while not make it useful in combat.

debug camera works for external pics :) if we didn't have it exploration would not be as much fun and i probably wouldn't go.

it can be a pain in the "Verb" and i wish you could zoom out from the ship without facing "down" and moving back, i find my head tracking round the screen trying to understand where the hell "up" is and where the hell my ship has gone.

but its workable :)

besides you spend 59782396729769 hours getting to your perfect screenshot, bask in the moment!

Can we at least have it during supercruise? I mean, I can't see why the PC guys have it and we don't. What's the limitation?

It would be nice to get a little more FOV with it too. Seems like all my shots are a little tight, no matter how far I back up the camera.

I'd like to have the option for an external camera while docked. I'd like to take photos of the ship and/or look around it a little bit. It's a pity that there's that beautiful ship and I can't admire its looks. In normal flight it's cumbersome to control the debug camera and we're also vulnerable to an attack in that state.

The only reason to use a docking computer. You can launch the camera while the ship lands, but can't look around until after the SDC releases the controls.

It can be done without the docking computer, just hover slightly above landing then turn flight assist off, then enable debug camera.

If we can remap our button layout i will try to swap the button combination for debug cam to a combination that works in super cruise..

Now we need to hold B.. but this doesn't work at all in super cruise.

Hold Y does work, and the left and right bumpers are still empty... i have good hopes we can unlock the debug cam in super cruise this way. :D

This was exactly my thinking, once remap controls are in I would expect the debug cam to work in supercruise if you map it to a suitable button/combination.

Surprised the topic is still going despite Brett's simple and final answer.

We used to have the debug camera in SC but it was removed. Wouldn't be surprised if it comes back, I think I remember a dev saying it would in fact.

Here's a fix for the camera that doesn't provide an advantage:

Have a hot key that allows you to 'record' the position of every object, player and npc (in your specific instance) for a specific period of time. This is all just numbers, right? Just the basic game telemetry.

Once that information has been saved to a file ... let me reload it and play back the session inside the game engine. Allow me to control camera position, multiple angles and perspectives. People have been making great 'ctrl-alt-space' videos but what can currently be done is still very limited. Recording the telemetry data from the game and then playing it back would allow you create amazing video compilations without providing and advantages to game play since you'd effectively be reviewing scenes recorded in the past.

Like that idea, but i fear that isnt a easy task to acomplish ... lots of coding-time the devs might want to spent on other things

Actually, just gently set your ship down with your landing gear up. Then, lower your landing gear and quickly activate the camera. It takes a few seconds for your gear to engage, plenty of time to activate the camera.

I think it was Error or Bongo that taught me that one.

How about camera drones then? Follow you around, so you can take videos of the craft as it's manoeuvring, not just when flying straight. You could say shields have to be down and weapons retracted for the drones to work, so they can't really be used in combat.

:)

I'm sure there might be a very good reason the external camera is as awkward to use as it currently is, but please - just fix it.

It seems silly to have such an option but then make it really awkward to use. Yes, we can all muddle along and get the external views we eventually want but it shouldn't have to take 5-10 minutes to do something that could be done in 5-10 seconds.

I know some players think "it's part of the charm" but I don't. Maybe give us an option to have the camera view with current controls or newer easier ones, that way everyones happy.

Sorry to grumble, especially as this has no doubt been mentioned before.

This is something I had lived with as we didnt have liverys before. But now i think it needs improving.
Using it with "FA Off" makes it way easier to use. ;)
