Oh no - I have an opinion about 2.1 before I even tested it

Dear all,

looking at these forums now, 8 of the top 10 threads currently try discussing things that have not been released yet.
Once, I learned the following steps (in this order)
1. Try out something
2. Give it a fair chance by trying out a bit longer
3. Develop an opinion
4. Voice it in a constructive manner so that others can profit

I just love forums!

I don't think most posters jumped to conclusions, but I could see a lot of concerns voiced based on what we have seen in the streams. And I think it is a good thing.

Same disease on YouTube all the usual suspects rehash the same videos from the live stream and spend 20 minutes or so speculating, oh and don't forget to like my page so i can up my revenue stream.

All we´ve seen in the streams are 1 up to 2 min Clips, how do they really show a chance of getting a good stat for a module? I think it´s something that needs to be tested in the first beta-"phase". I agree with Tick. Lets see how it works in the beta test :)

1: Prior experience is useless unless it can be drawn and expounded upon for future reference and action.
2: In game development apathy is viewed as acceptance. If you don't speak up immediately things are less likely to get changed.
3: If we didn't have opinions, we wouldn't have forum accounts.
4: Almost every post on the forum is actually given in a constructive manner. However, people with differing opinions are quick to take offense to anything they find on the internet because they don't have to rationalize that they are speaking to another human being, so the sides quickly become emotionally engaged and entrenched in their opinions.

Yes.. and the forums are also full of people saying "Let's not have any opinions about this because we haven't tested it yet" - Sheesh I'm never inviting any of you guys to a party. Speculation is fun, deal with it ;-)

The rational for 'talking about stuff we know little about' is even better:"FD never listens to our informed opinions during Beta, so we have to give them our un-informed opinions. Surely they'll listen to those!"

Frontier are building up the hype for their new update, people are naturally reacting to it. Would you rather everyone be silent and not care? It's not like there's much else interesting going in the forums, the SDC haven't done much shenanigans in a while. Beside, the majority of discussions have been quite civil I think.

If released information, like the streams for example, isn't supposed to be discussed, why release it to begin with ?
This is a discussion forum as i'm sure you aware of, and nowhere in the ToS does it state that only hard facts can be discussed.

Remember when 2.0 beta came out and everyone thought it was the end of SCB and shields? Yea, turns out they actually buffed shield builds for large and some medium ships.

2.1 looks amazing, obviously the weapons are all getting tweaked before release (otherwise there would be no beta), and it's really silly to complain about them before we've even used them.

+rep to OP for having common sense, something that isn't very common

It's because of past experience, and a lack of information being given. Game companies won't listen to the player base the vast majority of the time. The only time they have been shown to be willing to reverse course is when the players scream and yell and throw a fit over things early on. Once they're invested the time and money into developing something fully, there is no chance at all of changing their mind.

This is exactly why FD concentrated on the most controversial engineer gameplay in the live streams - even ill informed feedback is useful to them at this point. It also gets the players to concentrate on those changes in the beta period.

I hope they take account of the fact that the loudest voices on the forum are not necessarily representative of the player base as a whole.

People will always have opinions before something is finalized, OP. Whether it's negative or positive opinions doesn't really change much. Would you have made this same thread had all the threads been, "OH HYPE HYPE 2.1 IS GOING TO BE AWESOME AND PERFECT!" I'd wager you wouldn't. Fact is though they have released bits of information which have some people very excited, and others very concerned. If you don't like to read opinions I suggest you get off the forums.

dunno , ive put 1238 hours in this game and im still bored. thinking of writng a open letter.
can i already say that the download speed is way too slow?

I think there is a difference between saying "I wonder if it will rain tomorrow" and saying "I think it will rain tomorrow".

Personally. I wish people would reserve judgement until they actually see it. Often speculation is based on an incomplete understanding and concerns have already been addressed in ways not yet discussed, or are based on incorrect assumptions.

Some people like to sit and ponder the possibilities, then figure out how it all works.

Others like to take a much more passive and casual approach.

It doesn't really matter what people's opinions are. People who haven't tried it out saying it will be amazing are just as wrong as those who say it will be crap. There's a 50/50 chance of it being either really good or really bad. We'll just have to find out.

Regardless, people have a right to their opinion. So you, OP... Have no place in telling people that they aren't allowed to have one.

Speculation is sometimes healthy to games. The developers like to know how people feel about their game.

Well, it's a known fact that when you ask any community (other than Bay12, for some odd reason it only happens to them in waves) of a game that's in continuous development what they think the future holds, they will immediately respond DOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!
