How to/can I upgrade to Horizons 2.1 beta?

A dollar today is not necessarily more worth than 40 cents each year for the next 5-10 following years.
Unless I am mistaken, but the associated costs of a click in the store management page is really neglect-able comparing to the total revenue.

Here's the thing: Beta was about $20. Thats pretty steep for beta access if you already paid full-price for the game itself. So they have to consider what is more profitable: easy beta-addon to Horizon purchase will have more people buy it. After all, if you're already spending 50,- people find it easier to justify adding 20 more. Also, exclusivity makes people a bit primitive: we get scared that we might really really really want it at some point in the future yet our only chance to make it happen is now. So I'm sure many people bought beta without actually entering in the beta for whatever reason. Having a seperate beta in the store would reduce the Early Bird Sales, and the beta pass would have to get cheaper after every patch. Pre-sales of Beta forced us to buy access to beta of all patches.
Both approaches can be advantageous, and I assume FD ran some numbers to estimate which would end up with more money and the right ammount of testers.

I just realized it would be a good way to to spend the time before NMS is released. It is shame they are to clash, but that was Frontier's plan from the beginning I guess

You know there is a great way Frontier can gauge demand. They can make it available.
If there's no demand, frontier can rest sort of easy in the knowledge that they might get some more money in the future. Probably. If there is demand, people will spend actual money now to buy it and frontier gets a cash injection in between major updates.
Hint, there is a beta about to start.
Do you have any idea how petty people around here are about making 'exclusive' stuff available again? People went berserk when they did that with a paintjob, imagine the fury now...

Lets be honest though most of the people are there for the early access
If I were frontier I'd gift free season/beta passes to the most helpful people (secretly of course) and just leave it as it is as a revenue stream.

Yeah I completely understand, it hypes their patch, generates revenue and helps them test the various elements of it. It really is an all round win, just pointing out its perhaps dubious in its true context
