To the Rift in a Red Diamondback!...

One could go without an AMFU on a relatively "short" trip like this.. if one is careful with the scooping.. shields are good for landing, obviously. But I brought an AMFU just in case I would come to feel like staying out for a long, long time... so therefore no SRV for me.

I left Bubble in January with the DW fleet. Made it to the BP and now on my way back. At least 60 planetary landings so far. Have two AFMUs on board but never had to use any of them, all systems still at 100%.
So it greatly depends on your flying style i guess.

I decided to go back to the Bubble to cash in my data before 2.1.. Now heading for Home, I found a very nice system of blue stars and Type V Gas Giants...

My actual time in the Rift was pretty short.. but come on.. it is a desolate and depressing place.. I'll take the Core over that place every day of the year. :)

Slowly getting closer to home.. Today I was distracted by several nice gas giants. I like the ones with strongly defined belts.

I also landed on a very craggy and desolate dark moon:

The light from the star was bright, but the moon's surface was very black, so when you got in the shadow of a mountain, it was pitch black.

Give up the AFMU. Without shields, you can't land without taking damage.

edit: I tried to add a time code to the video but it doesn't work. Jump to 1:31

I have said it before, after many trips with and without heatsinks and AFMUs, I need neither. Even when I had them I barely used them. Currently 33kLYs from Beagle Point and all modules on 94% or better, AFMU still not touched.
CMDR Space Lurker : Great thread :)

Careful  I said this and joked about the scary system I'd seen a few days back.... blissfully unaware that my path had turned around right back to approach the same system from the angle that will become abundantly obvious when you look at the picture below

Heatsinks are very light, was the only time I needed them but very glad they were there indeed

What is not tagged by Allitnil? I just came back from outer arm into Orion arm last night, been literally months since i have seen a previous tag and guess who? ChiggyVR.

ChiggyVR ey?... imagine the surprise of all the rifters if what we find in there is a Chiggs base.... :)

Under the bubble... CMDR CHIGGY VONRICTOFEN.
Over the bubble... CMDR CHIGGY VONRICTOFEN.
First discovered system after 6 months in deep space.... CMDR CHIGGY VONRICTOFEN.

Passed by two hot Jupiters today. One was really close to a brown dwarf.. and the other one was fairly close to a Sun Like star.. latter one pictured. I will return to the Bubble in a day or so and sell my data. A few steps closer to Elite ranking. Will probably give Elite a bit of a rest after that.. but I will be back. :)

Everyone deserves a little R+R - been enjoying your pics. Many rifters now back in the bubble waiting for 2.1 to drop, then who knows

So I came home during the night, and sold my data at the Anderson Platform in my Home System.

9 millions and a bucketload of First Discoveries richer, I can now afford to fly my Orca again without selling the Diamondback. Going to take some sort of a break from Elite now, but I'll be back.. so much to do in space!...

My Explorer rating is now up to Pioneer 47%
