Engineers in 1.6 - Why?

Firstly, I don't know why my original question was moved to the Xbox forum, of all places. My issue isn't specific to one platform (I'm playing on the Mac anyway) but is instead concerned with the 1.6 release as a whole.

So why are the Engineers in 1.6 if you can't actually interact with them? I got invites to visit them and markers on the galmap to show which system they're in but of course they're planet-based, and there's no planet landings in 1.6

My question is very simple: Why are they in there if you can't make any use of them?

Because there's not reason not include them in the coding probably. I mean, you are all in the same universe.

Also, you are on the mac. You wouldn't be able to use them even if you wanted too.

It would help no end if people actually read stuff properly. This isn't Mac-specific. This is 1.6-specific. 1.6 is on Windows, OS X and Xbox. So the Engineers are in all of those versions, but will also be unavailable in all those versions.

Why?

Might be worth asking this in the beta forum rather than the main discussion.

Even better, perhaps the 1.6 / 2.1 beta bug reports would be ideal place to ask that question.

Well that's kind of what I was looking for, but there's no 1.6 Beta forum, only 2.1 Beta, Horizons, etc. etc.

Well it doesn't strike me as a bug, there's too much of it in there, but maybe I'll try that.

To encourage you to open up your wallet and purchase Horizons?
Seriously, please learn to read. I'm on a Mac. Please direct me to the page on the Frontier store where I can purchase Horizons for Mac. It's Ok, I'll wait…

Actually don't bother. I already got the lifetime pass anyway from backing the original Kickstarter. If there was Horizons for Mac, I would have it.
There isn't. I don't.

Because why go to the trouble of separating engineers from their module modifications? I assume you've realized players WITH horizons will have a chance to be in the same instance as you, so the code for their modified modules needs to be in your client to render them...right?

They did kind've poorly word those parts of the forum. Its probably because many bugs / questions will be common to both 2.1 and 1.6 so they didn't bother to name them correctly.

However, I'm pretty certain that your question is more likely to get looked at in the beta testing forums. After all, they need the core game to work correctly just as much as they need Horizons.

I actually don't look at it as a bug. You can earn the invite for an engineer without having 2.1. Maybe the invite will encourage some people to purchase Horizons. For those people without the ability to play Horizons (Xbox/Mac), at least the engineers will be available immediately upon Horizons release for your platform. Essentially, you can begin preparing for Horizons even if you can't enjoy it now.

Hm, I might have misread that somewhat - but the Patchnotes IMHO also kinda pointed towards "Crafting" in a separate way that did not seem to require landing at an Engineer's Planetary base.

I might be completely wrong, but at some time gathering "Encrypted Data" and accessing Materials (now also available as a byproduct from Resource Belts) might be used to a somewhat similar effect?
That was my impression when I went over some of these Patchnotes entries.

Would definitely be nice for all Players without access to Horizons and IMHO be a fair move if that was the case...

Then it's to encourage you to open your wallet and pick up a copy of Windows so you can play Horizons via Bootcamp...

Sorry, its kinda late, I am sleepy and somehow managed to miss this fine tiny detail :)

He can use it, he just prefers not to bootcamp Windows onto his mac to do it.

But he is also providing a service for all users on the core game as there will still be quite a few stragglers even after 2.1 leaves beta.

Man I'm sure you're sick of hearing it but just get a PC for gaming or a bone or something. I don't know why people still try it I've heard nothing good about gaming on a Mac.

Also I'd love to help you but I don't have beta access despite shelling out 120$ for the game alone.

So basically nobody knows?

Two of us have answered with the reason. Frontier DEVs didn't take the extra time to remove the notifications for those that don't have Horizons, but all the content is needed for you to interact with other players who have engineer-modded weapons. If you don't have the content on your client you can't render the new weapon effects when they're in the same instance as you. Maybe they will remove the notifications for non-Horizons players at some future date, but you need the content itself to play.
