I finally Reached Baron...

Congrats! I'm on the same journey, but only made Squire yesterday... So still a long slow way to go! Enjoy the Clipper!

Congrats! A Clipper is a fine ship. If you take care of it, it'll take care of you. I especially value its ability to run from trouble. :)

Marquis here. The grind is real...especially when you're not actually grinding.

I'm not working towards anything myself, but I can get a Clipper any time now and I've been debating if I should for some time. I certainly have the credits to both upgrade and rebuy it in the worst case scenario, but at the same time I'm approaching 100m and an Anaconda down the road sounds sweet too.

I'm 25% of the way through Knight... The grind is real. Been actually grinding missions for like 8 hours at a time, but have only made it through squire. Still gonna be a long way off before I reach Baron...

That sounds absolutely horrid. Have you tried Fehu yet? It's where I go. I'd bet you get through Knight and get to Lord after one, maybe two round trips...each round trip, maybe two-three hours total to get out there (15 or so Jumps in an AspE from my home system), stack missions and deliver said missions. I'm at Marquis and getting 10-15% each trip, you'll move right through Knight and Lord.

Well done, Cmdr!

Enjoy the Clipper, it's my favourite ship (have 3 kitted out for different jobs) and I've done pretty much everything in one, including the Sag A run :D

P.S don't grind, just play :D

This, grinded from rank 3 to 12 non stop and the game was terrible for me cause I was burnt out, had to take like 2 month long break

The grind was difficult and I almost gave up, but now it was worth it. I got to take it to a high RES zone and I was tearing it up! I always wanted to try a combat zone, but I was always too scare. I might try that out next.

I don't grind for anything, but I can see why it's so much more draining to grind in this game than others.

For Trade, you have to keep doing "repetitive" tasks like jumping from sometimes multiple systems to multiple systems just to make maximum profit. This can get tedious if you're not doing it for fun and only for the end result. With no fast travel system like other games, you having to make the same distance trek every time can get tiring.

For Combat, the TTK (time to kill) anything is wayyyy slower than any TTK in any other game. Look at a game like Halo, then look at ED. Even grinding in MMOs is faster. The slow pace just to get, if you're lucky, another 1% on your rank, when you're trying to get to that Elite status...it would be frustrating for me, anyways.

For Exploration, if you're not in it for the sights and experience, doing the same jump/fuel scoop/scan for hours and hours, days on days, weeks on weeks, and sometimes months on months...I mean, it drives the people who are INTO it crazy. Imagine what it does for those not into it?

That's why I've done a little bit of everything. Conflict Zones, RES/Nav Beacons, 8k-from-the-bubble trip, Rare trading, smuggling, mining... some things I prefer more than others, but I do my best to not let something get stale. If it starts feeling like work, I try something else.

For rank, though...I got a good chunk of my rank before the BB was nerfed to oblivion. If I made it my mission to get to something like King, as they are now, I'd probably tear my very blue hairs out.

Any time I find someone commit to something, like maxing Imperial or Federation ranks, or getting Elite in something, or just setting some kind of crazy personal milestone, I feel a sense of admiration to keep at one specific task for so long.

It's not too bad at the moment, for the Fed at least. I was getting a rank or two a night grinding in Tun. I understand that it used to be a hell of a lot faster, but that was back when my only concern was seeing how far out of the bubble I could get.

That's part of the reason why I started grinding for ranks now. It sounds like donation missions are getting nerfed into oblivion with 1.6/2.1, so I want to get to Rear Admiral at least before that happens.

I agree with you Reina. When I first started playing as a wide-eyed pilot, I was looking to have fun and didn't care about grinding, but when I decided I really want the Cutter I focused only on rating up. I looked for short cuts, tried Fehu and other stuff I read on here. That is when I got frustrated and quit playing for about a month. I started playing again and all I cared about was having fun and before I knew it a rated up to Baron. There are no shortcuts, but time flies when you are having fun!
