In-game music personalisation. Is this possible ? Or maybe a future possibility ?

As much as I love the in-game music I have often wondered if there was a way to modify the in-game music. I just sometimes feel like some of my favourite Jazz tracks are very suited to flying around space and from a simple role-playing POV, If I were to swing amongst the stars then I would certainly do it whilst listening to my favourite tracks blaring out of my cockpit hi-fi !
Have any of you more savy Cmdrs heard of any talk concerning this ?

On Xbox 360, you could override game music with your own music. They took that feature out on the One though, so no.

You could mute the game music in the options, then snap a Youtube playlist, but that would make your screen smaller. You could also just keep your phone on you, play music that way.

But as for a console-based solution, that was apparently too last-gen to bring back.

OK, I thought as much. Of course, I do have other ways to listen to music whilst playing, I was more interested in the immersive aspect, the way the cockpit or size of bridge can affect the sound. I love the idea of hearing the stereo within the ship.

I don't even think that's possible on PC. You would have to mod an "idle" sound clip that loops inside the cockpit and play it with your song(s) of choice but I still don't think it'll be effected by the ship and stuff with echo and such.

Sounds like a nice idea, though.

Well just thought that even my old beat-up Renault 205 has got a car stereo ! And I can't drive to the shops without a bit of music. So with this in mind I thought it normal that spaceships in the 31st century would all be fitted with them considering how long it takes to get to Sag A.

There is an easy way of achieving that, though it requires headphones.

I've been using a Turtle Beach DSS2 throughout most of the 360 gen, and I'm now using it with the XB1 (I do almost all my gaming with Sennheiser 'phones - I simply prefer it, no matter how decent my vintage Cambridge speakers still are). With that you can just insert a 3.5 jack and connect an MP3 player (very occasionally I connect a laptop instead).

I sometimes listen to podcasts whilst playing Elite, and so I disable the supercruise music, but usually leave everything else on. The DSS2 has a volume which can also be clicked to mute game audio, but the auxiliary feed is unchanged - volume control remains on the device itself. Having independent control like that is great, as you don't need to dive in to any menus to pause music/podcasts, or adjust volumes.

Oh, and yes, the DSS2 is/was ostensibly a surround-sound approximating device, but I've not used that gimmicky feature for years - I stick with the much cleaner, sharper stereo. The device also has some EQ presets, too, which can be cycled through at the touch of a button on the side. All in all it's a great little device, and whenever this one dies I'll be getting a replacement immediately.

/edit

Ah, didn't see that post about the XB1 update. Regardless, for me the DSS2 solution's vastly superior, as all control is completely independent/external of the game and console (the game or console could crash, but the music/podcast won't be affected) - I can end a gaming session and just continue to listen to whatever I was, with no interruptions.

Snap the media player.

The problem with snapping is that it isn't background-running. It's stupid. Sure, if you have a really big TV it might not be an issue, but if you use monitor like mine (I'm actually planning on down-sizing eventually to a 27"), then the snap mechanic is just annoying. For most people, true background-running is required.

Yeah I know, it's a pretty poor option but it is an option. You could even play your own music during games on the original Xbox fgs

I have a headset for my Xbox & my PC (PC headgear is actually E-sports standard, I take audio quality in games very seriously), And sometimes what I do, is I plug in some ear-hole phones in my phone, put them in my ears to listen to music, then put my gaming headset on top of those. The sound from my games headset is much louder than the music coming through the phone-speakers, so it balances out quite well.

SOUNDS Perfect ! tell me because I'm a little slow on the uptake ! Does this mean I can have game effects and my music from an Ipod within the same headphones ? if so this is for me. Unless I can find a cabin of subwoofers from Thelion's post which will also do the trick... I can imagine it now... Zero gravity and myself floating through the sound of Sinatra's "Fly me to the moon"

Two reasons here why this does not appeal to me... 1, It's stupid..
And 2, I have a very small TV. I have tried to watch Elite live streams whilst playing and the YouTube snap is so small I am like less than a metre from the screen ! stings after a while....

Yup, just plug your headphones into the DSS2, and connect the player - or laptop, or whatever - via a 3.5 to 3.5 jack, and the feed from the aux-in will be playing in your headphones with the normal console audio.

And, as I said, volume control of the player remains on the device itself (I use a Walkman), whilst the DSS2 only affects game audio (which can be muted by pushing the volume dial - a blue LED will blink when muting the game feed), so if either the game or music/podcast's too loud or too quiet at one point, you don't have to dip into any menus, you can just adjust on whichever device you need to.

It also has a USB-out for gaming headsets, though I've never used it as I just have normal headphones.

Thanks, I think that this will be ideal. I had a little look earlier at the link and I'm certainly gonna have a shop around soon.

Love how M$ is backtracking to bring features (that they should have kept in) back.

That's not sarcasm. I'm actually hype for this as well.

I couldn't agree more with you on this. if only they could sort out the ridiculous language/country of residence gaffe ! Because if they really believe that all English-speaking people can only possibly live in UK, USA, or Australia, well then they probably believe that I actually change countries ten times a day ! Lol

Yeah, this was such a ridiculous oversight on Xbone. Finally, Microsoft has seen sense, but how in the name of God's butt did they not do it sooner? 'Oh yeah, well, you can Snap!' - Of course, because we all enjoy ditching a quarter of our screen real estate to display a static media player. GGRRRR

Please don't get my rant-glands inflamed by mentioning Microsoft and regional settings. Trying to get Office to understand that I want ENGLISH not AMERICAN. I'm a writer,    . This became so annoying a switched to using Wordpad because it has no spelling highlighting.
