Lave?

Can anyone explain the significance of the star system Lave?

sorry if this is obvious, only I have seen its name pop up a few times here and there and wanted to know if I was missing anything?

it's obvious, but may be someone doesn't know it.

Lave + riedquat + few other stars system were the original point of start in the first ELITE game in the 1984.

In the original Elite game (1984) Lave was the system you started at. Docked above the planet at a Coriolis spacestation, with a Cobra Mk III and 100 credits to your name

Ah ok.

My Frontier knowledge is now a little richer. Many thanks for your replies.

I played FE2 religiously on the Amiga in the 90's but this knowledge must have slipped my mind. Unless of course if the starting point was different in FE2?

Didn't FE2 have you start on the planet Merlin in the Ross 154 system?

It did :)

Here it is in all its 16-bit glory...

Amazing to think you could sit on that launchpad, accelerate time and watch the ring-world Aster set over the horizon as night falls and the stars come out. Not bad for a 1993 game

I can still hear the music from the original Amiga intro. There are a number of videos on YouTube where users have remade this intro, some good, some not so good.

I've been wondering why FD chose Zaonce for the store address - anyone know or would care to postulate?

Oh man. I used the sound of the wind there, to fall asleep.

Perhaps because Zaonce is so well known to Elite veterans - Orerve is used too (as a support address), ain't it?

Zaonce: average industrial corporate state. Sounds about right for an online shop

Orerve: mainly industrial feudal system. User support system, to which access is granted in hierarchical stages. Clearly Frontier are the dukes, the Alpha testers are the earls, the Beta testers are the barons, and everyone else is the lesser nobility. (Okay, I'm not convinced by this theory...)

Also has a .net registered by Frontier but I don't know what they're using them for:
Reorte: poor agricultural dictatorship
Tionisla: average industrial corporate state
Uszaa: mainly industrial anarchy
Orrere: poor agricultural corporate state
