Back Home From DWE - FD Please, Please, Please, Sort Out The Selling Of Data!!

Yesterday I returned home from the DWE trip, which I thoroughly enjoyed & again would like to thank Erimus, Dr Kaii & everyone else involved in an epic & momentous journey.

Back at my 'Home Base' system, I swapped my trusty & battered Asp for my Python & began to sell my scanned data across as many systems as I could - to increase my rep with minor & major factions. Im not into dumping everything in CGs, so although a little 'risky' with all that data on board, it was how i wanted to do it.

Good News!

The trip netted me just over 280mil credits, which was more than I'd been expecting to get, from how I Explore.

YEAH! - i know the pewpew kiddies will make this in a hour by blowing things up - but as I'v said many times - I don't do pewpew!

Bad News!

The selling of such a large core of data is REALLY REALLY AWFUL! & needs some urgent re-design.

Yes, I know when I first started, I could only sell 1 system at a time. This improved to selling a page of 20 systems & recently then to 50 systems per page.
However, the current method doesn't tell you how many pages of data you start off with & how many more are left to sell - WHY NOT? - surely this should be simple to incorporate into the system.
Not knowing how much data you've actually still got left can be a bit frustrating after the first 100mil's worth is sold.

Then there is the order in which the data is listed. It seems to me that all the data is just randomly shuffled before the list is generated.

I noticed that one system 51k LYs from Sol was next to another only 5k LYs from Sol.

Can the data list be generated in - order scanned or alphabetically or distance from Sol, or even a system search - Something better than a random shuffle.

Some players prefer to sell everything at once, but others like myself may want to 'Cherry Pick' which systems to sell first.

It's an improvement to what it was...but it's still a long way off being ideal.

All data has finally been sold now, so I can finally relax, chill & wait for 2.1 to hit, before going out on the Crab Nebula Expedition next month.

Still a great trip to Beagle Point though!

In 2.1 one of the change is you can sell 50 systems per page rather than 20, so they've already done something about it. As for the data being sold in no particular order, that's another matter, I doubt they touched that.

Congratulations on making it back to the bubble, CMDR! o7
I can only imagine how long it must've taken you to sell all of that data.. I recently returned from my first Sag A* trip and already needed a good 90 minutes to sell everything.
+1 rep for you for making it to Beagle Point and back!

Yeah...the order is my biggest problem. Would be nice if I could sell it in the order discovered....To "relive" my journey once again when I'm selling the data.

I'm pretty sure it was in (more or less) discovery order back when I sold the data for my first trip last January. That was good because it effectively allowed me to relive the highlights of the trip.

I'll have ~18,000 systems to sell in a few days. Not looking forward to it :(

I'm not bothered about the amount of data needed to be sold, it's the issue of not knowing how much data you have left - 5 minutes worth? 15 hours worth?

I'm certain that the data is being sold at 50 per page now though.

The only solution is to make a note of the number of pages you've sold. That gives you an idea of how many are left.

I had a similar problem. I was selling exploration data to help people with their BGS (mainly at Cleve Hub in Eravate). I had to sell each system individually, but no more than 6m credits a day. After getting back into my home system I wanted to sell all the critcal systems, such as the almost triple green system beyond Beagle's Point and Zeewolf's crossing south of it. If anything happened, the loss wouldn't be so much the money as not tagging those systems.

So the first thing I did before flying off to the next system was to sell or the remote systems, and all the neutron stars that I had written down which would have taken me beyond 6m. It was quite a chore and I certainly didn't make as much use of the exploration data as I could have done.

welcome to Elite then :) (if not already so)

Thanks though that goal was reached last June when I went to Sag A*

My point is that it shouldn't be difficult to have a page indicator on the selling exploration data screen.....surely!!

I got your point, but there doesn't seem much point hoping for improvements that would only benefit the most dedicated of explorers.

Bwahahahahahaahahhhahaaha! Welcome to exploration.

There is but one solution. Never go back go the bubble.

I sold all my data this afternoon. Not sure what the final number of systems was (thanks to the stats double counting bug) but somewhere in the region of 17,300 netting 453 million. Compared to my previous trips I actually found it a rather painless experience. Took nearly 4 hours including a few breaks but I didn't bother flying around, just dumped all of it at Jameson Memorial apart from a few pages which I sold down at Neumann Camp to get allied with the Dark Wheel.

The best thing was that I quickly realised that for the first time, I could trust the selling process! No crashes, no time-outs and the bank balance credits went up in line with the exploration stats one. On previous trips I didn't have any trust in the process and whilst the credit issue wasn't serious I know I lost some tags due to crashes. As a result I ended up selling all medium & high value systems individually and only using the sell page option when left with 20 low value systems. This time, after some initial checks I felt confident in using the sell page button all the time.

I'm not saying the process is "good", far from it. I still hate the way that the data disappears into a black hole (no pun intended). But after months of (let's face it) repetitive exploration, clicking the mouse 700 odd times isn't too hard. It's 4 hours of my life I could have spent better, but the same could be said of the last 4 months ;)

Nearly forgot - the stats threw a new wobbly this time and my level 3 scans have gone up to a ludicrous 640,627!! For that to be correct I would have had to scan an average of 35 bodies per system on this trip. That did not happen :D
