Three crashes in an hour on average

Sometimes more, sometimes less. No diffs with any other game. It is DIRE. I was even foolish enough to pay for new skins n bobble head. I've paid me dosh, been playing for close to a year and still crash crash crash...

I really don't want to walk away, I love it when it works but enough is enough.

Gutted.

I did a marathon session from 8am to 10pm yesterday trying to get home from my SagA trip, didn't run into a single problem other than some frame-rate issues around 12 hours in, which a console reboot fixed.

First things first, have you tried shutting down the console completely, unplugging it, then booting it back up seeing how that goes? It'll that's the first thing FDev will tell you.

Considered submitting a support ticket?

Go to the support sub-forum if you need more help.

Also, "No diffs with any other game"? What does this mean? Context will help a lot. I would like to be of as much assistance as possible, but I need clarification.

You are probably not going to like what I have to tell you old bean, what! However, this method has worked for me with a few other games in the past.

1. Completely empty your console memory.
2. Force a hard restart
3. Redownload your GT
4. Reinstall Elite and only Elite!

Toodly pipsky old bean, what!

Assuming "no diffs" means that this happens on his other games, then I think he's suffering a hardware problem, not a software error.

As someone who just lost his Xbox to hardware failure, I'm inclined to agree with CMDR Gord.

OP, when did you get your Xbox One?

Huh, I assumed the thread was about bad piloting...

I've had two - maybe three - Elite crashes, but they're so rare and far apart that I honestly can't even recall how they happened. Ah no, I do; one was either opening or closing the galaxy map, and the other was at the very end of a jump - I distinctly remember (given I didn't know how Elite handled exiting the game outside stations) wondering whether the hell I'd resume to find my ship frying in the middle of a star... But it resumed in the system before the jump.

Regular crashes therefore do sound like hardware issues instead, as I assume network issues wouldn't cause the game to CTD.

Is it overheating? Mine used to be behind glass doors and it got very hot. Now it's just on a shelf and it's a lot happier

The last time my game crashed that much, was during the GPP Coriolis starport bug. I've been playing all day every day for the better part of a fortnight, and haven't crashed once! As Tafmeister suggested, mayhaps it's dusty, and is overheating, resulting in it crashing? How old is your Xbox?

Thanks all,

I've had the machine for about two years. No difficulties with any other games or apps. By the sound of your comments, crashing appears to be a thing of the past for the majority! I haven't been near the xbox but will check vents clear. I have done a hard re-set and re-set my wi fi. I'm wired vie plug into elec system with wi fi same. May try disconnecting and only using wi fi.

Between my friends and I, we have seen this problem not once, but FIVE separate times with Elite and the XB1.

In all cases ED seemed to be the cause. It was ALWAYS the first game (and in some cases the Only game) to exhibit problems. Possibly due to how hot it runs the xbox. If you mesure the temps on your xbox, you will see elite tends to run the XB1 considerably hotter than most other games.

In all 5 cases a reinstall was tried then a factory reset. In all 5 cases, only a new XB1 fixed the problem. I have also talked to lots of others online, all with similar stories

This may or may not be your issue but it seems to be pretty common so you should consider it. 8 out of 10 people i talked to who have had to replace an XB1 in the last year have been heavy ED players.

Is this just a coincidence? Or is it a pattern? Either way, this is why i always put the extended warranty on consoles. I have already had to replace a PS4 and TWO XB1's.

Ive played 735 hours of elite dangerous last year.. no issues here. Think its coincidence..

735 hrs lol. I said HEAVY ED players. Not weekend warriors.

But in all seriousness, i didnt say playing tons of ED causes EVERY xbox to fail. But it seems to be the common link in enough cases that it warrants consideration. Just because 1 ( or even a thousand) Xbox ones survive 2000 hrs of ED doesnt mean that a (possibly significant) portion arent experiencing problems under the same conditions.

Think of it like finding an Ld50.
Example: xxxx hrs of ED within 6 months will be lethal to 50 percent of the Xbox consoles playing it.

Looking through my friends list trying to ballpark the figures, it seems like The XB1 has about a 5 to 10 percent failure rate (not including disc drive issues) Meaning less than 1 in 10 people i know had to replace a console in the last year. When i tally up ED friends only, that number jumps to almost 40 percent.

Again, these are just my thoughts based on personal experience and sample size. I could be totally wrong. There may be no correlation but i still feel it warrants consideration. Just because 1 xbox survives 10,000 hrs of ED doesnt invalidate the issues it may be causing with hundreds of others.

Dont get me wrong here. I love ED. But when almost half of my ED playing friends had to replace their console in the last year, it should at least prompt a discussion on the subject

As a matter of courtesy, quick update.

I left ED alone for a couple of weeks. Since I've come back on, no problems at all, not a single crash! Usually playing for a couple of hours a session without a hitch.

Think it was Frontier, not my machine.

The current release of ED is quite stable for me - I still get the occasional hard crash (in RES during combat) but this is rare.

Let's hope 1.6/2.1 is as stable :)

Don't think anyone knows what the prob is. Played for a week brilliantly then last night are wing was collapsing constantly, party chat was dropping for everyone. Had wakes as wing mates most of the time in supercruise, hopefully this gets sorted out soon as is really frustrating.

....Left it for a week, went back on and all good. Hasn't crashed for hours. I had a look at how long I'd played and it was weeks and weeks, hundreds of hours and xbox working fine. Clearly Frontier issue now resolved.
