1st Quadrant Discovery Expedition

Greetings commanders! Some friends and I are going on a mission to find points of interest in the 1st quadrant. I have the first couple of waypoints planned out, however, further waypoints will not be planned ahead of time. We will be finding them as we explore the area.

I am inviting any commanders who wish to join. I will provide my own teamspeak to anyone who wishes to join. The mission will meet up for launch (Location TBA near the bubble) on Friday May 21st 1 AM GMT. I do apologize for the short notice. If you would like to sign up please provide your CMDR name, ship name, jump range, time zone any role you would like to play in the mission. Due to the short notice I will not close signups until one week after launch.

The primary goal for the mission is to find points of interest within the 1st quadrant of the galaxy. Our first waypoint will start with some beautiful vistas at the Veil Nebula West, then we will be following the Perseus Arm northwestward to 25,900 N. Due west from there as far as we can reach in the New Outer Arm. If possible, from there we will make our way along the arm to the upper 1st quadrant. Once we've reached approximately -11,000:0:44,000 we will cut across the arms closer to the core and visit many of the nebulae along the way back to Sol. The estimated timeframe is about 2-2.5 months, perhaps longer depending on the total distance traveled.

The route back is to be decided, and may be winding. It will not be a straight path as it appears here.

I was going to organize a thing like this too :D
Seeing as youve already started making it, I'll sign up. Id be happy to coordinate what areas commanders should focus on
Im guessing we're focusing on the upper first quadrant. I cant get fully involved for about a month (I have exams soon :/) Im currently at Beagle, so not too far for me to travel :)

Cmdr name: Flash_Baggins
Ship type: Asp Explorer
Ship Name: Ship With No Name MKII
Jump range: 33.8 ly (full)
Time Zone: GMT
Role: Id be happy to coordinate CMDRs on this side of the Pond :)

The focus would be on the 1st quadrant, not alot out there on the galactic mapping project, we'd like to get some more POI's for folks to visit out there ;)
I'd love to have some help organizing folks on the other side of the pond! :D

Guys you caught me here. What the frak is 1st quadrant [where is it]

One more thing. Engineers are coming, hopefully very soon. Are you sure this is the right time to start a long expedition? I see you have a Corvette in the roster which is not known for its spectacular jump range :) Providing this i think your speed will be quite low. And if this 1st quadrant is somewhere beyond Sag A your 2 months estimation seems to me rather optimistic :)

Anyway, good luck to you all!

I chose summer as the time to start the expedition because more folks who might normally be taking classes or are in university will have more free time. I understand the update is coming, and don't fault anyone who doesn't want to join up because the new content is coming soon. I also have every bit of faith in the corvette pilot ;) As far as how long the mission will take -- In all reality, I am not certain.

Ironically I'm actually on the northern edge of the 1st Quadrant now, but I'll be flying straight through it over the next couple of days as I'm trying very hard to get back to the bubble before 2.1 goes live. But after the update, and after I have my Asp upgraded with some defensive gear and an improved FSD I might just join you chaps. I'll have to be a "tentative" for now though.

Ha!

I was thinking of organizing something around this area by the end of the year, since there's too many expeditions starting soon... Would've been called 'Borderlands' and I already have a mission patch in mind :D

I'm currently still looking for a launch point within 200LY of the bubble, if anyone has any suggestions.

Would love to come along, hope things are nice and slow though as I won't have a lot of time to spend exploring through June and July. Anyway details below:

CMDR Name: Isaac Hunt
Ship Type: Asp Explorer
Ship Name: Mouldy Old Dough
Jump Range: 33.1
Time Zone: GMT
Role (optional): Anything that may be required I will have a go at otherwise just general hanger-on.

Regarding the comment about missing out on 2.1 going live, don't think anyone leaving will be missing anything unless they forget to remove the fish payment from Beta then I think it will be a few months of grinding to upgrade anything to a decent level, hope I am wrong though.

Since we are out here to explore as much as we can I don't think we will be flying at a breakneck pace, worst case scenario you can always cut back across our planned route to catch up if need be. I'll get you added up on the roster.
