Thanks to my car needing a new clutch and flywheel grrr...

I'm hoping that when these are released as mentioned their is a big drop in prices on cards like the 980ti

Would be nice to use the DK2 without any stutter.

Exciting times with the new generation of card though. :)

The GP 100 looks like it's worth waiting for. My 980Ti is working a treat at the moment in VR so I can afford to wait a bit.

I really want one or two of these 1080 cards, but I need to know whether or not FD can improve upon the awful juddering in Viveland when I'm using a pair of GTX 970 cards in SLI. If FD can, then I'll hold off. If not, then I'll have a GTX970 going spare much sooner (the other going to my son).

My second 980Ti is now up for auction. Just don't need it for Elite in VR or my other games so building up the readies for 1080 goodness.

Looks as if ebay will be flooded with thousands of 980ti cards by the end of the month.

Would be nice to get a bargain.

New card specs look impressive, hope a price war is looming. :D

From what I've heard that is a SLI related thing, so single card solution might help?

As more VR gear comes on the market expect 980 and up cards to retain their value (or even increase in some situations) for some time. Supply and demand. I don't think you'll see a real drop until 2017.

uhmmm, am I missing something?

the 1070 doesnt even look as impressive as the 980ti. this stuff is serious overhype marketing. I bet cash money these cards are not as impressive as they claim.
neither the 1070 or 1080 use the new fancy memory, and the specs are almost identical to the 980ti...?

look @ the transistors, cuda cores, memory of the 1070/1080 and compare all that to the 980ti/titan...no need to upgrade even for VR.
what is gddr5X?? marketing b/s.

the gp100 with that fancy memory will be the only worthy upgrade from the 980ti/titan.

great reads in the comments below

hold on to your 980ti's, specially if you are on water...wait for the real next gen vr cards.

and what people expected?

i tell you what i expect..

1070 better than 970. sligtly better than a 980...nothing else better performance for the same price.. that's what notmally new Generation cards always bring.

if you have a 980ti.. you have to wait until the 1080 ti or the new generation of titans to make a real improvement.

Anything else... are just dreams, a 1070 double the performance of a titan x...?? let me laugh loud .

Hope i eat my own words when more benchmarks come out, but ... always happens the same, customers expectatives always are way higher than real market.

You could be right, but this isn't really a normal generation change. The shift to 16nm and increase in RAM makes for a potentially huge improvement in efficiency (and in the case of the ram, I'd think textures etc would Bog down less in vr). Unless NVIDIA is flat out lying, I think we're gonna be pretty excited with the performance from these cards.

also, not to nit pick, but NVIDIA claimed the 1080 had double 980 SLI performance, not double Titan X for the 1070. That really would be impressive ;-)

Actually, to nit pick :) Nvidia claim that the GTX1080 has twice the speed of a Titan X for VR specific loads:

http://nvidianews.nvidia.com/news/a-quantum-leap-in-gaming:-nvidia-introduces-geforce-gtx-1080

"...NVIDIA today announced the NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1080 -- the first gaming GPU based on the company's new Pascal™ architecture -- providing up to 2x more performance in virtual reality compared to the GeForce GTX TITAN X..."

Actually, to nit pick your nit pick ;) they claim UP TO 2x 0.5X is up to 2X

Surely 2 times more performance is to be understood as twice (double)?

Anyhoo... No matter. Will be interesting to see the difference between Nvidias claims and real life testing. :)

Edit. Ah yes "Up to"... I see what you did there. ;)

That's called 'marketing'. If they said it IS 2x faster in VR they could be sued if it wasn't in all cases. If they say up to then they get the same marketing benefit but none of the risk. Now, if it isn't faster in VR then that's a whole different kettle of crisps.
