Powerplay Cycle 48 PP Commentary

Yeah, I'm quite surprised.

Didn't expect to see that data.

What's crazy is mahon isn't too far from you with the size of its empire. So is Winters and Antal.

Here's something even crazier: There are four powers that have inbound fortifications. Inbound fortifications makes it extremely difficult to avoid overfortifying. And all four powers with inbound fortifications are in the top five in terms of fortification efficiency.

They are probably like us and work hard to coordinate the efforts of the CMDRs doing the lifting.

Glad you're finding it entertaining, it is a game after all (except for Cutter grinding, that's just annoying).

Very true... I have to keep that in mind.
I'm right with you on the Cutter grinding as well. :)

Well, we've had to be rather well organised. ;)

That's a great graph, Fergal, thank you.

To be fair, we don't want to waste Merits. Before it was just because we liked being efficient and working on PowerPlay intelligently while everyone else slugged it out.

Now... Any merit of over-fortification is a Merit we can't put into ruining the Fed economy so we ally don't want to waste them. ;)

You over-fortify because of your fear of what we could do. We created that fear. ;)

No. We overfortify because it gives us a ton of CC to use on expansions into Federation territory, which we then use to decimate your ecosystems.

Re: When will Fdev take a serious look at the Alliance?
It took them almost a year to bother doing anything about the cooking laser ... I'm not expecting them to fix something, just because it has a negative impact on Mahon any time soon. Sadly I don't have high hopes for them making the Cytoscrambler have a usable range any time soon either.

One of the things I am hopeful for:
If the AEDC runs a successful campaign in the Rise To Power:
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=249058&p=3870447&viewfull=1#post3870447

Then Fdev have committed to collaborating WITH a single representative of the new power to work out its creation.
It is potentially a time where The Alliance will have some voice directly into the game.

I see great potential in the growth of The Alliance.
I see it as more Alliance, more voice, more opportunities, more choice, (and more work - lots more work).

Mahon and Wolf. [heart]

But there's a huge campaign to run before that can happen.

What's inbound fortification?

There are 2 fortification methods, your power (and another 5) use outbound, which is where you get your fort packages from your HQ, then deliver them to any control system.
You can do the 1T trick, to update your numbers in game, and see if it is already fortified, and if so, can fly to another control system and fortify that with the same packages.

Inbound fortification (Torval, Antal Delaine and Mahon) have to go to a control system to get the fort packages.
They then need to be brought to the HQ but they can only fortify the system they were brought from, there is no 1T trick, and if somewhere is already fortified, you can either jettison the packages into space, or deliver them to over fortify.

Oh.. That is rather interesting.

I didn't know that before. I take it that it only ticks the values once a day or every 30 minutes?

AFAIK It's updated immediately.
You just have to deliver 1 Ton to get a current reading.

This is kinda weird: Pirates and Alliance CMDRs helping an Aisling CMDR, to come to a deeper understanding of the game.

Olivia, do you know how senior Martin is in the Alliance? - He's right up there.
Martin, have you seen Olivia's bank proposal? - It would work but it's had no traction.

It's like mentoring Anakin Skywalker: "The spreadsheets are strong in this one"
"But will she use them for good or for evil?"

Well, I hope I'm doing it because she's showing a genuine interest and affinity for it, but part of me is worried that I'm doing it because of the pretty avatar.

I just read through it. Thank you for pointing it out - it's a very interesting idea, and I'd like to see it implemented for us.

You're both being sweet! I am genuinely interested. Whether I have any affinity for it is up for much debate. :p I'd like to think it's because we're similar

Well everything you need is there. I don't think the source code for the bot is. hastebin has probably deleted it (I still have it). But how the Mysql server should be set up is described. What kind of commands you would need to support basic operations is described. As long as you can write the correct queries for your bot, you're golden.

I know CHIMERA has interest in it, but I'd be happy to see more people implement it elsewhere.

Ah is it updated for everyone or just for you? hmm. If it's only updated for you, that would be difficult to plan around, but if it's updated every time someone drops a ton into the system, maybe you can plan far enough in advance to not over fortify.

It is updated for the player who drops off. While this doesn't prevent overfortification entirely, compare it to powers with inbound fortifications where you've no idea of the actual fortification state, until you've dropped off your entire load (you have no option to do otherwise). This is one of the reasons we were so quick to have the public fortification sheets, because it really is the only way to try to avoid having entire ship loads wasted by people who actually want to be effective at their task.
