New Elite controller, binding ideas

Just received a birthday present to myself, a new Elite controller, specifically purchased for using in Elite with the upcoming updates.
So far, the limited messing around I did....
*Two upper paddles as throttle (no more taking thumbs off the sticks for adjustments during combat, awesome)
*Left bumper as the switch bewtween flight modes (no more losing lateral thrust by accident during combat, awesome)
*Right bumper as boost (no more hitting the gas instead of landing gear, awesome)

Wondering if any of you have better ideas that im not thinking of. Currently not using the lower, larger paddles, not sure if that would be comfortable with my larger hands, but i could be convinced for sure....

I quite like the idea of piloting in SC with head lock off for extra visibility. I think I could simply map the large paddles to yaw to achieve this?

Can you bind controls to the paddles independently of the regular buttons? Or do the paddles work as second copies of the buttons?
Second copies of the buttons (or other things like dpad, stick clicks), they aren't configurable as new buttons or macros.

Personally I've got the bumpers transposed to the upper paddles, with the left and right lower paddles being X and Y respectively. That allows me to use the paddles to switch between firegroups and also switch Flight Assist on and off on the fly.

What I have done with the Elite controller is the lower paddles handle the throttle and the upper paddles doing left and right thrusters. that way you can use all thruster in combat without the need to move the hand anywhere which works perfect for me.

Yes, but you then lose yaw control because that is mapped to right thumb stick as well? Sorry if I'm getting confused...

Ah, you are using the new controls sceme... just use the classic one.. and set "yaw to low roll" that way, you only never have to use alternative controls, and you only have to click right thumbstick for freelook and fixed. I use fixed in dogfighting. Also because if i have it fixed, that thumb stick is used for strafing, drifting.
