Elite Combat Ranking

Does your Combat Percentage go up depending on the size of the ship you destroy and the enemy's own ranking or is a ship is a ship is a ship?

rank is all that matters. there was a dev post awhile back that stated rank was all that mattered.

to grind out the last rank I went to comp nav beacons and blew up elite sidewinders/eagles/etc. small stuff that popped quick.

The enemy ship's rank must be the same or higher than yours once you hit dangerous. An elite Viper counts the same as an elite Anaconda for ranking purposes

Its about the target's combat rank. An Elite sidewinder counts the same as an Elite Anaconda.
As your rank goes up lower-ranked ships begin to lose value as far as improving your combat rank goes so you'll want to target ships with higher combat rank themselves and ignore the Harmless/Mostly Harmless unless you just want them for the bounty.

Consider going into Combat Zones. You'll have a constant stream of ships to shoot at. I'm sitting on 51% Deadly atm, and I'm gonna make a push for Elite once I'm finished with BGS funtimes...

I hit combat Elite last night, (was already trade Elite). As others have said, it's all about the rank of the opposition, really you are only interested in Deadly/Elite opponents.

Personally, I always found CZ's to be rubbish for ranking, hardly any high level ships. Compromised Nav Beacon is where the action is at, rarely see opponents below Dangerous in those. Plenty of nice quick kills with Elite sidewinders and Eagles!

Need 11 percent more to hit elite. Tried cz but for some reason every enemy ship would decide I was the primary target after a few minutes in it. May try a compromised navigation beacon tonight if I can find one.

It took me 2½ hours to get through the final 10% of master at a CZ. I would have used a CompNav if I knew of one closer to Cubeo

Really? In high intensity ones theres at least one or two elites per wave, and a bunch of Deadly/Dangerous/Master/Expert who all count towards the rank.

Will have to find a CNB and see whats what now though. Havent been in one of them for aaaaages

I've had better results in the CNB, plus I prefer the ability to pick and choose my targets rather than the free for all in a CZ. I often found I would be doing fine in a CZ, then suddenly 5-6 enemy ships would spawn in my vicinity and decide I was enemy number one!

A bunch of CZ's appeared in my rearming system (the one I use for CNB doesn't have repair/rearm), so I tried going into a high CZ that was right by the station, but only found a couple of elites and a few middling rank ships in about 30 mins. In my CNB, every other ship is either Dangerous/Deadly/Elite, with regular wings of Elite sideys or eagles which are great cos they last all of 30 secs!

CNB's are much more laid back, as long as you have no cargo, you choose who to attack. @ Deadly I was doing 3-4% per couple of hours play, lower ranks would progress much quicker....

Sorry can't really help, there is a list of CNB's on the forum, but no way to know what systems are close by without typing them into a website.

I was using Coringha (but think thats gonna be ~100ly from cubeo, so not particularly close!).

Oh

My

God

You were so right. I was pulling 3% (deadly) per hour. And the AI seems a little tougher compared to haz rez. Had a whale of a time tonight, and came the closest to the rebuy screen that I've been for a while when I took on 3 rasps solo whilst my shields were down. Wont be doing that again :D
