A person could become a senator if he inherits the charge (not family bounds required, could be a person previously designated by the former Senator).
Also a patron could became a senator if he present his/her candidature and a billion credits (as guarantee, idk the proper word in English, sorry). In this case the candidate and the less popular senator will go in a election. If the candidate wins he/she became senator and the other senator loses the title. If the candidate loses he can't present another candidature within a year.
The last option, of course, is by Emperor's will.

Has anyone managed to ask Salome where we should sell our Exploration data yet?
I only ask as I have been out for a couple of months and have 3000+ systems worth of data to sell and am keen to see if it can be of any use in the Rift mystery. I have well over 50 black holes and visits to Beagle Point and Sag A.

I've asked. I've never received an answer. Could be that Salome was AFK in which case she is online, in private group and AFK a lot. I've never received a response ... which is sad because she sent me the friend request and not the other way around. Ah well. Women

You don't really seem to have got this. OK so from Sag A* we can draw a line down to the RR line- but where on it do you want the two to cross?
Without an other exact point for the Sag A* line to head towards it can meet the RR line anywhere you like and you are no better off than just following the RR line.

The real question is did something draw the ancient one here or is he always lurking, watching, feeding on mortal frustration?

No, no... I understand the quandary, but is the RR Line a laser beam that passes thru the two stars that points to a third star or is it a wall that traverses to the edge of the arm and passes thru any number of systems?
If it is a laser beam that passes thru the center of the 2 stars, does it pass thru the 3rd?
If it is a wall, there could be any number of systems to check.
And a second line intersecting the RR Line could indeed be 2LY from the start of the Line to 18kLY from it.

But you know... there is something quite Elite about insurmountable odds and doing it anyway.
So - now we have both Commander Salome and Commander Kahina Tijani Loren in the game.
What is this? Is she spending half the year in the underworld, like Persephone?
Is that legit? I always thought it was the Old Woman that went to the Rift and saw what she saw...not Kahina/Salomé?

It would be wise to wait for something official before starting the tinfoil factory.

Edit: are they flying the same ships/have the same pilot rankings? If not someone is messing with us.

Pretty much the whole length of the line has been checked now I think, or at least to within a few systems - generally the belief is the line just points to the Rift, which it does very accurately
We're then told to cross the rift to get to where the X is, but that's it - there's no "exactly on the RR line" anywhere, so it's just the first signpost. There's nothing so exact about it sadly - that far out just the variation of orbits and stellar movement would screw up any laser-line like accuracy how.
Whatever IT is we will find it somewhere around the back or deep inside it... I think our energies are best spent on what else we're missing than refinding the rift.

This is also reminding me to put something more about it in my thread rewrite. I didn't get much feedback on the updated doc I posted a couple of pages back. I'll give it another day, and then I'll make it so. I presume comments will come through so I can post edit my OPs subsequently.

Yeah, but FD would let someone do CMDR Superman and CMDR Clark Kent too.
Doesn't help one bit. Whoever this player is obviously doesn't have a full grasp on who Kahina is. He's conflated her with the old woman. Kahina may have had her memory problems in Reclamation but it wasn't Kahina who had her mind wiped.
Hopefully the player will have the honor to have the account renamed or wipe their game save. I had named one of my saves "Gordon Jameson" and wiped it when I realized that some of the original Kickstarter backers paid good money to have the right to a "Jameson" name. This strikes me as somewhat similar. Its quite one thing to commandeer a name from fiction outside the Elite universe. Entirely another to pluck one from the official fiction without the author's consent.
Yes ... there is a CMDR Angel Rose in game, named after Angel Rose from Elite: Dangerous Mostly Harmless but thats a case of the author, Kate Russell, playing as her fictional heroine.
Drew gave permission for CoR to claim Salome as their leader. He also gave permission to whoever is playing as CMDR Salome to act as the character in-game. Whoever this Kahina Tijani Loren may be it rubs me the wrong way entirely. Would be along the same lines as someone picking the name "Zachary Hudson" or "Denton Patreus". Claiming to be a lore-based character and attempting to act on their behalf without permission. Wrong.
