AMD/DK2 Crashing issues?

So....after finally getting the chance to play after a few weeks I was happily playing last night and had just jumped to the next system when the the game stalled and went down to about 1 frame every few seconds.

Had to Ctrl, Alt Del out and windows popped up with a GFX Driver crash. rebooted and check the OR 1.3 settings and it saw the rift and camera were both detected but the DK2 screen stayed black. Head movement worked via the window on the screen just nothing through the DK2.

Didn't have time to do anything about it last night, Just wondering if it's a case of reinstalling the drivers or if anyone had experienced this before I start to cry and wail uncontrollably at the loss of my beloved DK2?

Card is a AMD 7870OC on the latest drivers.

That's not good news, have you tried fiddling with the HDMI connector or replacing the lead?

Hi Adam, I did have a bit of a wiggle witht he lead at both ends but didn't have much time, just hoping it's the drivers and a reinstall might do it.

I was wondering if someone had experienced something similar.

I am hoping and preying the DK hasn't died.

Mine's also getting very reluctant to wake up. I've resorted to wiggling wires and pressing the headset on and off a few times. It does eventually work but it's taking longer and longer each time <erk>

The problem with an intermittent fault is that you can never be sure what helps or hinders problems. I did replace the hdmi lead and it seemed to help, but then the old cable still works as well.

I might have to revert back to flat-o-vision until my CV1 arrives in August.

I will spend a little while wiggling like a madman tonight... But sadly no CV1 on the horizon for me..

Damn I'd miss the VR if I have to go back to flat-o-vision.

Does the DK2 sensor show up in device manager? Are there any entries for it in Printers & Devices?

Unplug it and try different USB ports. Make sure any DVI/HDMI adapters haven't died and the port still functions. Reload the software. Take out the little rubber plug and plug a USB something into the headset and see if that connects.

Not had a chance to have a look at it yet, will have a go this evening after I've sorted Kids tea, dchool clothes, homework various melodramas etc..

I did have a look at the Windows Device manager and it didn't show up under display devices. It's connected straight to the GFX Card no DVI/HDMI converter. and as I said was working fine until the game slowed then crashed. I'll check the cables and reinstall the oculus drivers this evening.

LolI'm really sweating on this.

I suppose the DK2 being a developer kit is just that a Dev kit and will only last for so long. I was lucky to be one of the 1st batch and I'd guess that the warranty was 12 months as well

I have been getting it myself, so here is what I do now before starting ED.

1. Start oculus software.
2. If screen black, go to settings->beta, then click to restart oculus.
3. If screen still black, turn off HDM (button on top) and turn it back on.

In 100% of cases this brought back the screen for me. On my old computer (i7 2600k + 970) it was complaining about not having an USB3 connection, with the new computer this is no longer a problem.

Cheers, I'll give that a try.

just seems strange that it was all fine then nothing after I'd rebooted.

Indeed for me 90% of the time it works right after a reboot, although the other day it didn't when I rebooted, but the above procedure fixed it for me.

Cheers for the help, uninstall and reinstall of the Oculu 1.3 did the trick.

Phew..

Seems to be a reoccurring issue now, game starts to slow and then crashes.

I've then had to reinstall the OR Drivers via the repair function.

I'm wondering if it was the last AMD Driver update.

Anyone else had this recently?

This could also be a Windows corruption issue.

Open a CMD window as Administrator then type

SFC /SCANNOW

That will seek out any corrupt, deleted or wrong version files in your Windows Install automatically. When completed reboot and give it another go. I've found it fixes issues regularly.

If it does not find anything wrong, then a malware check is a good thing to try.
