Any ideas to help with god rays in CV1?

The Fresnel lenses on the CV1 and Vive are a terrible idea. They cause so much distortion that I've gone back to using my DK2!

I love the CV1 but I am one of those people that are really struggling with the god rays issue that is caused by the Fresnel lenses in the Rift. I have tried moving it around on my face, adjusting the IPD, moving closer and farther from my face. I have tried a green hud with reduced brightness but it is pretty bad for me in ED. After playing awhile, the screen looks like it has Vaseline spread over it. (Seems to get worse as I play.) I almost prefer the experience in my DK2. The issue is there in other games but, because of the dark background of space, it is at its worse in ED.

Has anyone found anything that helps besides what I have already tried? Elite Dangerous has been one of my favorite games since beta in VR. I hope I can improve the experience somehow.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Staying out of Imperial ships helps a bit as they have more contrast in the cockpit...

I seem to be bothered by them a lot more when my eyes are tired / i've worn the rift for a while.. taking breaks seems to reduce it. It may be psychosomatic, but it's something..

I read that excessive contrast and brightness makes god rays worse, and that dialing them down helps. I found this video. Don't know if this will work with the CV1:

Please let me know if it's any good.

That will not work anymore! This was possible with the old oculus drivers where extended mode was used. Now with the new 1.3 oculus drivers it all works in direct mode, so cannot change nvidia setting cuz nvidia does not "see" the oculus headset.
So if you still want to do this you need to install the old oculus drivers 0.5 or 0.6. If you do go down that route be ready for performance loss/lag!

JUST TURN OF AMBIENT OCLUSION then its way better and put your hud color pips down i got mine on 2

Here is my hudcolor what i find suits best:

<MatrixRed> 0, 0.05, 0.29 </MatrixRed>
<MatrixGreen> 0, 0.29, 0 </MatrixGreen>
<MatrixBlue> 0.35, 0, 0 </MatrixBlue>

one or tow pips in color strenght

The DK2 has really bad off axis distortion and vignetting which manifests as coma in star points and blur in large surface area contiguous textures.

The Fresnels in the CV1 have improved upon this significantly, the field is much flatter and way less prone to these artifacts. The downside is the rays.

When I first fired off Elite in CV1 I had a serious issue with godrays. Turning down the brightness on the HUDs didn't help much. Also I noticed the headset would get very hot and uncomfortable on my face after 20 mins or so. Then I started playing around with the straps and the way headset is positioned on my head - it was a big difference and in comfort and significant reduction of the godray effect- now I hardly notice it. All I did is loosen the side straps to a point where I barely feel the pressure on my face and let the TOP strap carry the weight of the headset. Also the rear triangle should be fairly low. When I put on/off the headset there is hardly any stretching on the straps and most of the pressure is on the forehead with barely any on the cheeks. I suppose everyone has a different head ergonomics, but making it as loose as possible seems to do the trick. I'm now enjoying VR Elite to the fullest and any godrays that are left I just think of them as the "natural light refraction" on the flight suit helmet I wear in the game ;)

Yeah. that's more or less what I found as well though my post above wasn't as detailed, it's basically the same thing.

Is there any way to reduce brightness of CV1? Mine is way too bright compared to my LCD which I set pretty low because I have sensitive eyes. :)
Plus I do most of my game time during the night.

So anyone tried to reduce brightness a bit or a bit more than is default because i like how blacks are really nice dark black in OR but compared to my LCD again I can fly in dark side of an asteroid field like it's day compared to my LCD where i'd crash and burn in one minute or less.

Turning up the gamma to around 75% helps a lot with god rays, I did it initially to reduce the colour banding, and also noticed a large reduction in god rays as a bonus. Of course when the patch is released and dithering is enabled and I reduce the gamma again, they will return.
