Heya guys, I'm relatively new to the game and don't know too much. Is the Cobra MKIV available to purchase? I know it was part of the horizons DLC for pc, but me and a friend of mine have actually been seeing the MKIV's flying around lately and it kinda confused us. Is it just a thing that ai gets for now or?

The Imperial Fighter and Condor won't be available as far as I know because they don't have a FSD. Although I guess when we get fighter bays in the bigger ships they'll be available for that.
Yeah, I've seen NPC's in it too. Perhaps since the last update?
Either way, almost every account I've heard of it says it's a bit of a waste of a ship that more or less besmirches the good name of the III (then again the Viper IV mostly had a similar negative reputation, and it turned out to be a right proper warrior of a ship).

I've looked at the stats on the Cobra Mk IV and it seems to nerf all the Cobra MkIII's strengths (it's speed and agility) and replaces them with more room for internal compartments. It's a trade-off for sure, but it sounds like a halfway-house between the Mk3 and Asp Explorer and being worse than both.
I believe the cobra IV makes sense as a planetary lander - it's a tough mid-entry ship with lots of internals
the MK4 looks like a nice BB mission smuggler.. its somewhat better in that than the Viper MK4
to be correct: they have a FSD without hyper jump capability - they can fly in SC. i have seen some in SC once, but it is rare.
it is a swiss knife. not in any way a main ship (which still is a cobra MK III for me, if i don't fly a python), but if you want to run a lot of missions, for exampel because you back a minor faction, a MKIV is great to have. mining missions, pve piracy, salvage ... in one build. the next ship having a bigger number of internals is a python...
To me, the Asp Explorer looks like a better bet, but maybe I've misread the stats?

That be me' build! One loadout handles mining, haulage, and salvage all in one go, plus SRV capacity!
Combat, well, you can do it, but it'll require a focused build. Personally, I just use a Viper Mk IV for combat. Makes much more sense.
She is slow, but like I say, a good Cobra Mk IV pilot is a civilian sector pilot. People don't complain about bulldozers being slow... The same logic should be used to look at the Mk IV. A lot of people saw the "Mk IV", and instantly assumed that = better than the Mk III in every way. Wrong, The Mk III is better in things like flight model, but the Mk IV is better in versatility. I'd actually say the Mk IV is the better ground attack boat...

and yeah damn, you really do like it don't ya? xD I absolutely adore the cobra mk III and by the looks of it would love the mk IV. I'm pretty sold on it now tbh
