"AN IDIOT ABOARD" _ EJIRO's first walkabout :D

OK!!!

I've finally done it folks... with much fumbling about and plenty of sound advice from community members. I've turned coat from small time smuggler of Astro-Weed to deep-space explorer!!!

What could possibly go wrong?!

I've also been doubly brave and I'm doing my first trip in a MKIV Cobra!!! I'm determined to see if this ship is in fact good at something :p (I'm also poor... so my selection of ships to go walkabout with was pretty limited. )

For now I can spare you all the details of my build and route specifics (unless there's popular demand for it?) But I found a nice little system at the edge of the Imperial bubble, stocked up on beer and chips and set a conservative 1,000LY route to a white, hot star with a singular glow so bright I saw it when zoomed out approx. 3K-4K LY from the bubble in the map. I thought... THERE IT IS! This tiny jewel, shone so bright!!! IT MUST BE EXPLORED!!!!

And off I went.

I shall use this thread to post pics & updates from my venture. With luck I won't end up wrapped around the nearest Neutron Star.

My first images from the initial leg out are honestly pretty dull. Just a few shots of my departure station and then some local sights a few 100LY out.
My final images are from a dusty little moon that had a strange Sulphur depression in it. I decided to land there and camp out until starting the next leg

Enjoy!

(disclosure: I am running a custom pipeline in ReShade, so... there.)

So long big city life!!!!

Ok....so....Ricky just called. He wants you to walk 1 km naked on the surface of that sulfur planet. Apparently it's an ancient tradition, and the locals would be offended should you refuse. have fun!

Space madness... although, looking at the title... You're sure you didn't sniff too much of your former occupations payload? [blah]

Anyway, exploring is more addictive :)

Nice pictures by the way.

Ok, I seriously LOL'd at this :D When FD finally implements on foot departures, with luck they'll add the toggle for "remove suit"!

Wow, that's what bases look like??? I left 3 days after 2.0 dropped and am just on my way back in now. That looks awesome.

WOW, now that is what I call HARD CORE exploration! If 2.1 goes live by the time you come back to the bubble there will be a new dazzling world of cool stuff for you to experience! So this base pictured is the largest type of planetary installation. Perhaps there may be even ones larger? But the massive ones are all generally these circular city rings. Below that, there is a massive variety of sizes and configurations for planetaries. And from what I've seen the Engineers bases while perhaps not as massive, feature much more custom, hand-crafted structures and artwork that makes them feel very unique from the other bases. Personally though I love landing at these massive circular ones... the views on arrival are spectacular.

TY mate!
Haha... well I mean some of those smuggling jobs take you well off the beaten path... what's a dashing rogue to do in that cockpit? Surly the local stoned miners won't notice if a bushel or two go missing :D

Leg 2.)

So I was given a mild lesson in fuel scooping by a massive T star. Luckily I've packed 4A repair modules so I was able to repair everything except my power plant, which is sitting at %97. I won't try that again, LOL. I know there's an acronym for this somewhere... pretty sure "T" isn't one of the letters in it :D

Anyway, a few more pics from my second leg. The planets and features are starting to get a bit more interesting.

Found this beautiful scorched desert world with a massive water feature... I reckon in a billion years this will look just like Mars ;)

Time to depart and press onward!

FINALLY! My first untagged, undiscovered world!!!! Well... at least I think it is? It was unexplored and no other CMDR's name was on it?
After conducting a detailed surface scan I went back to the system map to see if my name was on it... and it just instead had some info on the planet... but no CMDR name? Did I do it?! I think so?! WOOO! (I was pretty excited) A little icy gem.

Finally time to move on... See you around snowball!

In the same system there was another icy world with a strange canyon feature... I decided to go down for a closer look:

Looking for a spot to touch down:
27067660326_0878cec357_o.jpg

Went out on an expedition to a low spot in the canyon and I found TWO LUMPS OF CARBON!!! I'M RICH!!!! :p
27100907595_c844ccb18a_o.jpg

A few systems afterward, stumbled across this stunning ammonia world about 64KLS from the main star:
27067660056_5f2aedba37_o.jpg

Sadly real life came knocking so I had to pack it in... I set down on an icy ball. What this image doesn't show you is the massive shear cliff that drops off behind my ship. I'll explore that when I depart for leg 3.) Until then, cheers all.

In order to get your name on the first discovered tag of a body, you need to be the first to sell the data on that body - I wouldn't worry, though, I'm sure you'll get that tag when you return. Don't go running back for an ice world :) Very nice shots, btw.

Canyon Crawling, I like your style! :D You do know that it is also massive amounts of fun to fly / boost through these canyons? (You just need to remember that canyons have walls ;))

Oh, and by the way, the acronym: Oh, Be A Fine Girl, Kiss Me!
The bold letters are the scoopable star classes. Easy enough to remember (at least... by me).

Marvelous pics! Can't say that enough.

Fly safe,

Ah! I thought that might be the issue. No worries... I'm definitely not doing this for the money. I don't have the free time that some other players do where I can grind out slave runs like clockwork and earn millions. I think after 6 months of playing like a 'normal' person I managed to edge out 20 mil credits doing a combination of smuggling and bounty hunting. Both of which are fun... but all of the picture threads from explorers on the forum were calling to me :)

Gorgeous pics cmdr...and I'm sure the Mark IV is fun to fly.

Keep on exploring...

Frawd

Much thanks CMDR Frawd! I'm having a blast. Not sure I'd call the MKIV 'fun'... maybe... comfy and safe are more like it... it does handle a bit like a bus, lol.

Much thanks MCDR! :)
My approach for this mission is... if it looks interesting, check it out! I'm not grinding credits or scans... this is truly just a sight seeing expedition. If I jump in to a system and I see an interesting planet 400,000ls from the main star... I'M GOING THERE! :D Also thanks for the acronym... indeed... no "T" hahah.

Agreed canyon carving is tons of fun. While I'm enjoying the Cobra MKIV... I have to say it's a mere shadow of it's MKIII sister in terms of performance. Though I certainly do feel safe and comfy sitting inside it's bloated equipment-packed hull :p

wonderfull pics and going in a mkiv ... i like your style ;-)
keep going and posting please :)

Thanks CMDR MLS! Honestly I had my trusty MKIII all spec'd and ready to depart and at the last second I thought... This is about exploring! I've never flown a MKIV Cobra! I must explore this new ship! lol.../ so I actually turned around from my departure station and went back to my home port and bought a MKIV and re-spec'd both ships and set out again. LOL. So far no regrets... all the extra equipment is great and I've got 16 tons of cargo space just in case I stumble across the deep-space salvage of the century!

Liking your screenies and enthousiams! (yes, that is plural)

It sounds like you've caught the bug. Have fun sploring CMDR!

Thanks CMDR Stardust! Been having a blast! and I'm very excited to reach my destination. The star I'm headed toward looks simply massive compared to it's neighbors. I wonder if I'll get my tag on it! :D

Leg 3.)

Made some real progress toward my destination star! I'm a mere 400LY away at this point.

Again, the deeper in to the black I go the more interesting the features become.

In a continuation of my last picture, here is the backside to my camp site from the end of leg 2: I was parked upon an 'Olympus Mons' of sorts... this drop-off was spectacular:
26859310190_17c9f96403_o.jpg

A few systems on, I could see this massive typhoon more than < 10ls out from this planet on approach.
27038828552_d584d75cbc_o.jpg

unremarkable planet, but this was too funny to pass up :D

Sunrise over a metal rich world with a thick soupy atmosphere:
26529552863_a1d13341be_o.jpg

And the grand-finale for leg 3. It took me almost 30 mins of trying... but I managed to get the ships computer to agree to land on the tip of this massive 6KM peak on a dusty little moon. The view was spectacular... the perch precarious... I dare not deploy the SRV, lol. A good place to camp until the next leg of the journey.

Leg 4:

Creeping toward my destination star... this was a short leg as I got hung up scanning an entire system that was untagged... though it was mostly full of rocky ice balls. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to "tag" my first full system :)

There were some highlights though... I came across this high metal content world that was unlike any of the others I had seen. Mostly they look like Mars with some clouds. This entire planet was overcast and milky. Very cool!
26876896670_eba7167776_o.jpg

Even amongst the bland rocky moons there can be some nice views to be had:
27151035175_f9e171d9ae_o.jpg

The color on this metal rich moon was pretty spectacular:
27151034895_1918efee53_o.jpg

Now for a couple of "firsts"! All of these were sadly previously scanned by other CMDRs... but it was exciting none the less to see these for the first time out in the black.

My first water world scan:
27151034875_fffb38175f_o.jpg

A black ice-world!!! [woah] Maybe these are common? First one I have ever seen:
27117949646_835cf3d16a_o.jpg

And, as always... trying to finish the leg on a strong note, My first ELW!... though again... previously tagged [blah]
26876896420_f47aeb6359_o.jpg

I already think the game looks stunning... I can't wait for the fidelity bump in 2.1... it will make exploration all that more amazing.
I put it in park around this ELW and just took in the view for a bit before signing off for the night. Stay tuned for Leg 5!
